Ah, so you just moved from one side of me to the other, assuming you mean Claremont, NH! If so, I had a bunch of friends down there, too (I played youth hockey for a Claremont-based team). I'm afraid I don't have any fun pizza questions for you about Cincinnati or Taipei.

Also, if you were in Hanover from a young age and went to daycare across the river on Montshire Rd in Norwich., there's a 99% chance my mother remembers you.

For years and years the only place I would get my hair cut was Hilde's Salon Vienna, downstairs in a corner of a weird little brick mall-like building near old Brick & Brew. And agreed, EBAs was just fine. We went there often after movies at the Nugget.

But yes, hello! Hooray upper valley folks! I graduated high school in 2003 (I was one of those KUA kids) so lots of overlap. I'm sure we know at least a few of the same people. If you went to Hanover High School you possibly had my friend's mother (Mrs. Hirai) as a teacher, for instance.

Most importantly, I remember that if you ordered an extra large pizza to go, it was smaller than ordering an extra large pizza to dine in. They had to shrink it so it would fit in a box. If you were eating there, it was the size of the whole table.

Yeah, I can't remember the exact timeline, but I know Ramunto's was a small chain. I could have sworn that Brick & Brew was independent before the Ramunto's name got tacked on. I remember the tiny location on S. Main St, where the brick oven took up a third of the whole restaurant it felt like.

My first question for Hanover people of a certain era is "EBAs OR BRICK & BREW?" Also, hello! I spent a lot of time in Hanover growing up because I had a number of friends who lived there.

Happy Zero Cool day. Hope everyone is getting their watches in. It feels good on VHS.

Happy Zero Cool day!
A still from the scene from Hackers (1995) in which Lord Nikon discovers Dade Murphy was "Zero Cool". "Zero Cool? Crashed fifteen hundred and seven systems in one day? Biggest crash in history, front
page, New York Times, August 10th, 1988."

I think I watched hackers 1.5 times yesterday. Here is my work desktop background currently (it rotates between my hand-selected stills from the film every 20 minutes).
A screenshot of a desktop background, which is itself a screenshot from the 1995 film Hackers. Specifically, it is a scene in which Joey is staring at the source code of a "worm", which in this case looks like math and fractals swirling around with Joey's face superimposed over it.

I found some more shots of those folks who climbed the empire state building yesterday
A still from the 1995 film Hackers, in which Crash Override (Jonny Lee Miller as Dade Murphy a.k.a. Zero Cool), The Phantom Phreak (Renoly Santiago as Ramόn Sánchez), Lord Nikon (Laurence Mason as Paul Cook), and Acid Burn (Angelina Jolie as Kate Libby) are on a service platform on the Empire State Building. Phreak holds a laptop while Acid Burn uses it and the other two look on.A still from the 1995 film Hackers, in which Cereal Killer (Matthew Lillard as Emmanuel Goldstein) is on top of the Empire State Building yelling in the foreground with the cityscape in the background.

DNS setup seems fine; DNS lookups were zippy. Images and the site's javascript were all reasonably sized; no slowdowns there. No general internet routing issues going on that I would expect to be related. The most likely culprit is Squarespace's CDN being slow in some regions.

I checked things out and everything that you have control over seems fine and normal. It does seem like Squarespace is sometimes extremely slow for no reason. My first page load was nice and zippy, but when I reloaded it hung for 20 seconds or so. Seems like just Squarespace things to me.

If I had to bet money on it and this was three years ago, I'd bet a LOT of money that they copy-pasted something similar from stackoverflow without understanding it. If I had to bet money on it right now... you know exactly where I think they got those parameters 🙄

Yes, but I don't know if it was the original or "express" version, but I'm starting to understand why the original might have helped when nothing else did 😮

I agreed with you at the time, but didn’t want to believe it. i’m about ready to start boycotting brands that are replacing creative roles with AI and lying about it.

Short answer? Reasonably sized multiplayer maps that are super super super super well optimized. This dev team knows what they're doing. This game is also by FAR the best running UE5 game I've seen, for similar reasons.

Since we've decided as a country not to support PBS anymore, I do want to make a plug for PBS Passport the online streaming version of PBS. It's $5 a month and we've had it for 8 years now. Nova, Frontline, nature, Ken Burns, local shows, old house, masterpiece, and more are faves in this household.

I started The Enchanted Greenhouse this week! I was worried about picking it up originally, given the fate of the character as described in the previous book. Once I learned that this book STARTS with that, rather than ENDS with it, it changed my perspective and I got excited for more cozy fantasy!

It's weirdly hard to find good info on how their cord-antenna setup worked, but this wiring diagram makes it pretty clear that it is attached to the power cord, but via a capacitor. You are safe to leave that lug detached, but can always tape it if you don't trust that capacitor.

Unless the receiver circuit is damaged in some way on your KLH 21, I doubt a modern radio would be as selective (or sensitive, for that matter). It's still worth testing on a couple of different radios to see if you have different results, but I agree that fiddling with an antenna is your best bet.
120 2
Samuel Colburn @sam.codes · 26/03/2025
Another thing that may help is a radio receiver with better "selectivity". These days it's hard to find a broadcast FM receiver with much care put into circuit design, but they're out there. Depending on what radio you're using, you might have better luck with a different one.

Yeah! A cheap dipole *may* help, but it really depends on where the desired and undesired stations are located. A dipole antenna is directional, though, so if the two stations are not coming from a similar (or opposite) direction, it may help.
