Finished for book club: Japanese Gothic by Kylie Lee Baker. It was a curious blend of elements, but foremost, it's a mixed-ethnicity child of the diaspora trying to bridge the abyss over the Pacific left by cliched American understandings of Japan. A slow evolution of "generational trauma".

I think there's been a constant of love in the world over time. What's changed is people have been engaging in politics to align things so they don't have to fake love. This is cross-ideological, e.g.: women fighting to not be forced to be wives/mothers, but also well-off discarding noblesse oblige.

I feel HBO shat the bed with the Dune Prophecy series. It had unlimited potential by focusing on the rise of the Bene Gesserit. It had some tremendous actors. But the execs fumbled the creative side, passing around the showrunner and writing gigs until they had to resort to a turkey.
