Ordered dinner tonight (carryout) from a Greek place. Ordered a Greek salad, some pork sticks and a lamb stick. Put "please no onions, as I have an onion allergy. The greek salad was 1/4 onions by volume. I didn't get lamb. I got pork -- covered in onions. Their phone number is disconnected...

I'm really bad at promoting the business. Anyway. I make jewellery. It's cute. You should buy some so I can continue to make more. This is our Spiral Raindrop necklace. You can find it, and many others, here: montgomeryramsay.com
A model in a black shirt wears a Spiral Raindrop necklace in the sun. We can't see the model's face. Is she smiling? Is she laughing? Is she squinting and grimacing because it's bright and sunny and we just cut her face out because of that? No one knows. A Spiral Raindrop necklace lies on a white surface at a kind of 45 degree angle. The necklace itself is a twist of wires spaced evenly apart in an angled almost American football-like shape. There are 9 of them. Their shape creates truss supports that reinforce the structure of the necklace while keeping it light. At the top is a bail with a hexagon in the middle. Why a hexagon? As if you really need to ask. A Spiral Raindrop necklace hangs against a white background. No one is wearing it. How is it hanging? There's no obvious table. Where is that shadow coming from? Does anything exist in this reality beyond that of the necklace itself, and, if not, who is around to take the photograph? None of these existential questions will be answered by purchasing one of these necklaces, but they won't have to be, because it's pretty, and you will forget all about them the moment it arrives in its branded purple Montgomery-Ramsay box.

I love that this video starts off looking like a photograph because NO ONE IS MOVING -- not the kids nor the squirrel they're eyeing through the window. Then, after a moment, Starlet swishes her tail and it breaks the spell.

This was something I saw yesterday... and... I have questions.
A dish or bowl of some kind, around the lip of which are 25 ceramic bunnies that are part of the dish itself -- too delicate to be handles, but too in the way to not be handles. One assumes the dish is decorative, as I suspect washing this thing would be a nightmare. It is very much not my thing, but I applaud the excess.

Some of yesterday. A trip around some of North Georgia.
A cider flight and some meat pies at BJ Reece's cider house. The meat pies were mediocre, but hunger is hunger. One of the four ciders we had was worthy of buying some to take home. Two of them were high alcohol and kind of tasteless, and one had some lovely flavour overshadowed by a plasticky taste that ruined it all. Fresh nutella mini doughnuts. Some wandering doughnut stand (a food truck sans truck) was set up at the cider house, and the fellow there was making fresh doughnuts in something like 20 different flavour options. They were insanely good and a horrible health decision, but OH such a good flavour decision. Expedition: Bigfoot -- the original location in Cherry Log, GA. If you've ever been fascinated with the sasquatch legends, or just fascinated with the people who are fascinated by the sasquatch legends, this is THE place to go. We first spotted it on our way to the mountains after our wedding back in 2017, when it had JUST opened. And I HAD to stop, 'cause, I mean, how often do you get to see a Bigfoot museum? I didn't think it would stick around. Seems kind of fringe. But it's apparently so popular they've opened 2 additional locations. It has large collections of things like alleged bigfoot imprints and recordings of supposed sasquatch calls and documentaries and kitsch. It's pretty glorious. A bit pricey, but it goes to the good cause of supporting someone's wild, mad dream, so I'm okay with it. A shot from across the highway of BJ Reece's Apple House. We opted NOT to go to the apple house this go 'round, as we'd already hit up another one we kind of like better (Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge, GA), but the cider house across the street is a nice stop, and it was past lunchtime. Even on a Tuesday in mid-afternoon, the cider house had more traffic than I've seen some restaurants get for dinner crowds, and the parking lot at the apple house was packed.

5 years ago today, my wife and I were driving around in the hills in Vermont while waiting on some photography for our launch collection in the new brand (Montgomery-Ramsay). It was perfect weather, and just the right time of year.

Vertigo has discovered that there are cats outside of his room, and he DESPERATELY wants to meet them. Big Tiger came up to begin the detente, and Vertigo is hooked. He's now sitting at the cat gate, crying out for friends.

10 years ago today, @sallliss.bsky.social and I arrived in Venice to have a redo of our previous year's trip, where I wound up hospitalised on our first day, ruining Sarah's first ever trip to Europe. The redo trip was really nice. I miss those days. My dad was still getting around and healthy.

There was a time when old Uncle Joe was SO scared to come into the house and eat while I was in the room (unmoving), that he had to be escorted and coaxed by Little Tiger, who showed him it was safe. This morning, Joe blocked my path and then hissed at me because I wasn't petting him...

Head's up for US shippers. USPS Ground Advantage is changing its 'expected' delivery times from 2-5 days to 10+ days. It will travel road only, so do not use this for temp-sensitive items. Priority mail to the non-contiguous US will be 2-6 days, but expect the high end.

Sigh. At least we could open the door enough for me to get a hand in and move the mirror. I lay back down after and thought, “Am I going to be allowed to go back to sleep?” (I was not)

Kittens. Vertigo spent the morning knocking things over in his room. Knocked over a mirror and made a loud clash (and also blocked the door from opening). Knocked stuff off shelves. Exploring his space and getting more comfortable. It's actually a good sign. But loud at 4am. :)

October has arrived! Absolutely the best time to putter about in the North Georgia mountains. Lots of festivals and fun. Apple houses are open all over. Pumpkin patches and corn mazes. But steer clear of Helen, GA! It's Octoberfest and traffic is AWFUL. It's the best of times and the wurst of times.

Okay. Vertigo is done with surgery and in recovery. Will pick up in a couple of hours. Vertigo is a boy. 3.6 lbs (~1.6 kg). Estimates are about 3-4 months old. Negative for FeLV and FIV, so he'll be allowed in gen pop.

Vertigo is home. Made a beeline for mom (who's in the cubby just beneath him). Meowed like mad when he realised she was there. And has now settled down to chill. She's not sure who he is yet, but he's tiny, so she's adopted a relaxed posture now and is calm.

Okay. Vertigo is in the hands of the clinic now. So I fret. And fret. And fret. And did I mention fretting? I know these things are utterly routine. But there's ALWAYS a risk, even with routine surgery. So I shan't be able to relax until the little kid's back here and safe.

I have literally no idea what this random facebook ad is saying. I'mma assume they're selling ungraduated, white violin bodies. But... I don't actually know. Piano embryos??
A picture of stacks of violins and celli, none with necks attached. The text is from "Wholesale Violins & Bows for repair/restoration (Dealer's Page)" on Facebook. The ad copy says, "Leave the time to the soul of the voice, and leave the hassle to the professional us. Professionally customized refined piano embryos to accurately reserve the acoustic tuning thickness For you. Without heavy blanking and sharpening, you can fully devote yourself to the shaping and carving of t He core tone - even simplify the process, and achieve your unique violin sound."

All our cats are feral. In general, they almost never vocalise to either me or my wife. Once in a while to each other, but rarely. And they have somewhat understandable behaviours. Our abandoned STRAY on the other hand is equally loud to us both. But we never know what she wants.

The entire bottom shelf in our freezer has been encased in 12" of solid ice for a good while now. We've been resisting the need to defrost the thing for a while because it's, like, work (and we've a lot of frozen stuff). And f that. But today, we chipped it all out with hammers and picks.

Three orange cats stare out some open windows. Two in cat baskets, and one stretching up from the floor next to a cat basket. Outside the windows is lush and green, and there's likely a squirrel or chipmunk on the forest floor being eyed murderously by the kitties.

There are crisps on plates around the table, and the boy and a couple of visible guests are all wearing hats. The boy's paper hat is a golden crown. Made this little gold maple leaf pendant today in honour of the first day of Autumn. Any excuse to saw some metal! The copper leaves at the bottom were made some years ago for hammered copper napkin rings. Someday, I'll make more of those if someone orders them.
