fun fact: moles have extra thumbs on each forepaw. an even more fun fact: ours used his to dig up some lit mags for you. isn’t he a dear? (trick question. you can’t say no, because he puts on his tiny little glasses to read all the comments, and gets upset when they’re not nice!)

'I get depressed sitting at home on my own. So, I still go in to work; ring my bell enthusiastically as I weave a path between replicas of people once on their way somewhere, still hopeful one of them will flinch.' An absolute stunner from @stillsquirrel.bsky.social ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Join Ani King for the launch of their debut flash fiction collection, Family Night: Stories (Mason Jar Press). Preorders are available at https://masonjarpress.com/chapbooks-1/family-night.

FAMILY NIGHT is by turns a lyrical celebration of queerness and an exploration of family and loss, often through a lens of magical realism. Ani King’s collected flash fiction stories explore relationships and connections: a teen girl attempting to summon her missing mother home with cigarette smoke and yacht rock songs; two sisters disputing how to care for an unhealthy elderly unicorn; a woman accidentally raising two daughters from the bones of her long-dead pet rabbits.

Ani will be joined by emcee and guest reader Katherine Plumhoff, with additional guests Claudia Monpere, Dawn Tasaka Steffler, Allison Field Bell, and Elizabeth Deanna Morris Lakes. Come hang out with us and enjoy conversation, readings, and giveaways as we celebrate Family Night!

-- Please note we are only collecting your email in order to send the calendar invite and event link.

-- This event will also be recorded.

Repeating myself...Note the offer to "Humanize" the text. There are a lot of scams looking to make $. This site is a scam. If you run this fantastic story through a reputable scanner, you won't get such a ridiculous result. Run it through Pangram. It will tell you 100% HUMAN.

I would agree the majority, maybe the vast majority of the lit community wouldn’t dream of using AI. The problem is that with AI the handful of perpetrators can produce much more work and target paid publications and comps.

Suzanne (writing as S A Greene) @sagreene1.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I agree with this, and share all your concerns re using AI to detect AI, but don’t forget humans have their in-built biases too. Lit mags could and often do contact authors, as you suggest, but there’s no scope for this with competitions, or at least it’s not common practice.
