So many roads just like it all over the city simply because drivers use them to "get around construction & congestion." The Manitoba Government needs to get out of the way & allow for the default speed limit reduction. The city needs to recognize its responsibility for safety & reduce to 30 kph.

This road is absolutely dangerous (because of drivers) and it's ridiculous that it's only school hours. I biked to work downtown; the road adjacent to this one was without a doubt the most dangerous feeling of the entire ride. Narrow road meant for quiet residential with cars going 60+.

Speed reduction proposed for River Road after child hit. It's a good thing that kids are only found in school zones & only at certain times of day. We want our kids to get more active but refuse to put any limit on drivers. Lower the default speed limit to the truly safe speed of 30 kph. t.ly/2Qtfv

Every single media report and police statement that commonly and mindlessly states “Speed wasn’t a factor,” by which they mean they can’t prove that the driver was exceeding the speed limit that’s almost always too high in the first place. But yes, because physics, speed is ALWAYS a factor.
“speed wasn’t a factor.”

Media & police commonly report that “speed wasn’t a factor in a crash.” What they mean is the driver wasn’t technically breaking the speed limit, or at least not too much. But speed is ALWAYS a factor, in how much distance is needed to stop, how well crash victims can be seen, and whether they die.
Graphic showing how hard it is for drivers to yield at different speeds, how a drivers field of vision is reduced at higher speeds, and how the likelihood of a struck pedestrian dying increases with speed. #SpeedKills #SpeedIsALWAYSaFactor

To carry 50,000 people per hour in each direction, a city needs a 175m wide road for cars. Even if those cars are electric. And then there’s all the parking. OR a city can move A LOT MORE people in a lot less space, with A LOT LESS public money, emissions, pollution, noise etc. Choices. Simple.
