Attention Ecologists! We are going to need *a lot* of ecologists. The First Lego League Teams need to speak with a scientist about their projects every year. Every year it's a different type of scientist. Last year was archaeologists. This year, ecologists! Sign up: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...
A fish is a teacher, wearing a button-up shirt with a collar. He says "Volunteer to speak with classrooms in front of a chalkboard that says "Skype a scientist needs YOU!". A snail on his desk says Help! And a shrimp says "Lego league is coming!" and a nervous seahorse says "this year's theme is ecosystems"

This has been the cutest week. Look at the little fluffy hawks, growing real feathers and keeping an eye on the world around them. 🪶 #bird #photography #BirdOfTheDay #Cutie
A photograph of at least two young hawks in a nest. They're mostly covered in fluffy, white feathers, but darker smooth feathers are starting to show up in the wing area. The hawk to the right is looking directly at the camera, even though it is quite far away. It has dark eyes with deep gray irises, and a sharp beak. Green leafs fill in the foreground and background.

Cooper's Hawk, nest-watching from afar. 🪶 #bird #photography #BlackAndWhite

The hawk's body is turned away from us, but it's looking back over its right shoulder showing off one circular glowing eye and its sharp beak. The long talons of one foot are also visible below the branch. It has a sense of readiness. Watermark says Sarah Farooqi.

Back in 2019, one of the local wild turkeys decided to perch on the railing of my front porch for a bit, just outside my front door. I took a bunch of photos through the glass, and got a close-up view of the iridescence on her feathers. 🪶 #bird #photography #BirdOfTheDay alt #Feather&Light
A close-up photograph of the feathers on a wild turkey's back. Each feather has a fringe of reddish-brown at the bottom with a band of black just above it. Above that is a band of light color that shifts as the atmospheric light hits it, looking green or gold or orange. There's another black band above that, covered by the fringe on the next feather up. ...I so commonly see SO much attention paid to racists being stupid and so little to material support for those they attack or for the rich tapestry of Black art in general. Often, the work itself is buried in the uproar. What if we instead lifted such work and spent our time on that?

To us it's a barn, to them it's an enormous bird house. 🪶 #bird #photography #BirdOfTheDay #BorrowedPlaces
A photograph showing a detail of a red-painted wooden arch where it meets the top of a wooden column. A sparrow (a small, light brown bird with a triangular beak) perches on it, in front of a gap with nesting material spilling out of it. The barn is weathered and the wood has worn away in spots, giving the impression that this bird or others like them have been living here for a long time. Watermark says Sarah Farooqi.

Good morning everyone, I'm looking for some gardening help today. Everything purple you see here got mowed down to dirt level today. The landscaper insists the roots are still there. My question: what's the best way I can help these plants recover? Thanks in advance. MA. #plants #gardening #help
A photograph of a bed of purple-blooming ajuga flowers over their green leafy ground-covering base, with a glowing green forest in the background. This got cut back to dirt level, though we believe the roots are still in place. Is there anything I can do to help the roots come back to leaves? Any chance they will come back this year? I'm not a green thumb, so even very basic advice is appreciated. We're in Massachusetts.

Running straight towards the Paparazzi was Donny Duckling (Shelduck) without realising the rule mum had set out for him, which was don't go near the Paparazzi. And sadly for Donny it was too late by the time it registered that his photo's were being taken, and he knew he was going to have to come clean to mum.
As he sat down to explain his actions to mum he spotted Dora Duckling waddling along nearby, and got up and ran straight over to introduce himself to her which didn't go down well when Dora said 'Mummy wants you' to Donny as she waddled away laughing.

Captured at WWT Slimbridge. It was time for the next episode of 'Neighbours From Hell', especially for Amy Avocet as she had to cope with Barry Black-headed Gull who was the islands bully.
On this occasion Amy was walking by when Barry jumped up and went for her, which she wasn't very happy about but didn't know what else she could do. But she had heard that Duckia were looking to expand their territory, so she sent them a card explaining her predicament and asking for help through 'Funky Pigeon'.
We will have to see whether Amy get's a reply and an offer of help in dealing with Barry, but until then she will have to try and steer clear of bully Barry.

Captured at WWT Slimbridge.Charlie & Charlene Common Crane were out with little Chester for a walk across the lake, this was Chester's first time getting his feet wet but wasn't bothered about that.
What he was most happy with was it being a short cut, meaning he didn't have to walk as far as he would have had to if they had gone round the lake as usual.
Once he reached the other side he was off exploring, and you never know he may bump in too Dora.

Captured at WWT Slimbridge.Well it looks like the card that Amy Avocet was sending to Duckia via 'Funky Pigeon' is going to arrive late, all because Walter Wood Pigeon stopped off for a cool down dip in the lake. And it looked like he was going to be in there for some time while he cooled down, sadly Walter didn't know about Amy's plight and he was too far out for the Paparazzi to get his attention.

Captured at WWT Slimbridge.
