I do like the feeling of recording an episode and immediately texting our GM to say HEY THAT WAS A GOOD ONE.

I wanna watch a spooky movie I’ve never seen before but not TOO spooky a movie but the REAL problem is that I don’t know what kind of spooky vibes I need.

We got to do the Ralph Vaughn Williams’s setting of George Herbert’s poem Love today, which is meant to be a solo art song and instead we just divide it up among the sections and don’t even do the added O Sacrum Convivium bits, I love it so much.
Screenshot of the poem Love by George Herbert:

Love bade me welcome. Yet my soul drew back
Guilty of lust and sin.
But quick-eyed Love, observing me grow slack
From my first entrance in,
Drew nearer to me, sweetly questioning,
If I lacked any thing.
A guest, I answered, worthy to be here:
Love said, You shall be he.
I the unkind, ungrateful? Ah my dear,
I cannot look on thee.
Love took my hand, and smiling did reply,
Who made the eyes but I?
Truth Lord, but I have marred them: let my shame
Go where it doth deserve.
And know you not, says Love, who bore the blame?
My dear, then I will serve.
You must sit down, says Love, and taste my meat:
So I did sit and eat.

I got out to the barn well before my volunteer shift is supposed to start and the field that always has a few horses in it is empty, where are the horses, what if they all left. I also didn’t see any on the fields on the way in, WHAT IF THEY ALL LEFT.

Have realized that tomorrow, I'm going out to the rescue barn again and the trees will be Doing Their Fall Thing, so I am PUMPED even for the hour-long drive to get out there.

Today is a great day to remind you that Anne Carson’s translations of Greek tragedies are just fantastic. She can write with a cutting simplicity that makes jokes zing and then knocks you flat with unadorned devastation on the same page. The way Kassandra screams across the page is itself poetry!

Trying to construct a narrative in your head and realizing along the way you were wrong and—crucially!—adjusting it to stay engaged once you clock what’s actually happening? Every part of that is vital, and phew, we could all use SOME practice.

Emily @sadcypress.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
There’s never one a one size fits all fix to anything problem, but gosh, I do think sitting with stories where you the audience have to engage fully to understand and may well sit in confusion for long periods might be close.

Because of vagaries of this particular concert cycle, I don’t have choir rehearsal tomorrow down in DC and it’s blowing my mind. A free Tuesday evening? Surely not.

For REAL. Like, it’s bad enough Shakespeare took away her agency at the end, but that’s the most egregious example of a director doing it all over again that I’ve ever heard.

I have just learned of a 2013 production of M4M at the Goodman where Isabella was murdered at the end of the play and I think I would have walked out. Yes, it’s the end of the play and everyone is about to walk about ANYWAY, but what are we DOING here, people.

I am both the friend who will excitedly look up the date for this year’s beaujolais nouveau when fall hits and the one who will forget to look for it when that sweet, sweet third Thursday of November hits each year. The two part legacy of my wine-loving housemate lives in me still.

Last year, a bunch of you helped Bran and I get out of a terrible living situation, heading to the first stage of us getting out of Washington DC. We're ready for Stage 2: Move to New Orleans. We updated the #GoFundMe page with new info and where the rest of the money we're raising will be going.

I have stumbled my way into a group of strangers who are going to read Macbeth together tomorrow and despite saying I’d be down to read any characters EXCEPT the Big Macs so as not to step on toes as the newcomer, am assigned Lady M. Well. She sure wasn’t on my shortlist but we’ll give it a go.

Our knight may have rebelled, but he has my support and loyalty. I’m more concerned about one birthday girl called “queen of dragons” and the one birthday boy called “slayer of dragons,” we may have a brawl on our hands.

As I recall, they essentially spread people out based on the size of their group to have an equal spread- there are all sorts of rules and warnings that to sit together, you have to have your tickets purchased together. Gotta hope we get a champ to root for.

When I was 3 years old, I was so excited to see Sesame Street Live that I slipped while dancing in glee on a balance beam and had to get stitches. Tonight, I'm going to Medieval Times with @wrestleacademic.bsky.social and @totalhell.bsky.social and y'all are LUCKY there is no balance beam nearby.
