Some more old digital art from the archives! A gentle soul, only hardened by the unspeakable things they had to do. ❄️ #Illustration #SaplingArt #DigitalArt #OC
A digital illustration of an androgynous pale person woth thick black eyelashes, curly short black hair, and a thick blue scarf over a light tan sweater and flat chest, tucked into black jeans. A grey tree landscape with snow is roughly painted behind them.

#Drawtober Day 3: My first every attempt at an outfit of the day doodle! (And a rare peak into what I look like hehe) Apologies for the night time photo haha #Sketch #Doodle #OOTD
A blue pencil sketch of Sapling, a cane user with a wrapped headscarf in a semi-UAE style, a button down t-shirt, and shorts, standing. It has big round glasses, a soft smile, and prominent nose, and generally white European features. It’s on a photo of a sketchbook with torn edges.

Instead of a formal #Drawtober I think I’m just going to aim to do some drawing each day! This one did have themes though: Someone with curly hair, Royal Ball, and Dancing. Featuring Mona (my lesbian Muslim daughter!!) #OC #OCSky #Sketchbook
A photo of a sketchbook showing a young miced North African woman (Egyptian, Algerian, and Malian) dancing in an Algerian style with one arm extended down and one lifted up with a flat palm. She’s wearing a Karakou with loose flowing sleeves, and has very curly hair down to her shoulders. The sketch is made in dark orange colored pencil.

Finally, the blue flower is a rare Jade Vine (tayabak) from The Philippines (a gem of the rainforest!). It provides sustenance to the Indigenous Luzon people, reminding us the world will always provide and connecting to Gabriel's own Filipine Indigeneity. It symbolizes uniqueness and pride!

The speckled pink flowers are Spotted Bellflowers, which can be found across East Asia. Most importantly, it is a dualsex flower, representing the other character (Gabriel's) multigender experience, along with Nico's body (being a man with top surgery, while retaining the ability to give birth).

The white flower is the Korean Stewartia (노각나무), found across China, Japan, and Korea. I wanted to use flowers endemic to the regions of the world these characters are from (Nico, the trans man in this illustration, is mixed Korean, Chinese, and Filipino).

Trans people are a part of nature's beauty. 💐 You all know I LOVE my floral symbolism, so here's a bit about the flowers I included in my latest this trans joy illustration! There's so much thought I put into this. 🧵 #QueerArt #FloralArt #Flowers #Trans #TransArt

I have two (desafortunadamente) 🫠 Mila loves acting like a classic pretty girl influencer and following literally every trend. Top hobby for that girl. Gabriel does it as intentional cringe. But also gets a bit gender euphoric (would never admit it though).
A sketch of Mila, a white trans woman with shoulder lenght wavy hair and bangs. This is from earlier in her transition before facial feminization surgeries! A digital doodle of Gabriel, a lanky multigender Filipino with freckles and short curly dark brown hair, posing in a yellow crop top and pink pleated skirt.

I'm Sapling! 🌱 I love queer traditional art (digital hurts my eyes). I mainly paint in watercolor, but have been recently dabbling with acrylic markers too! First three are for projects with @taplingzines.bsky.social Go check out their trans joy Kickstarter! www.kickstarter.com/projects/tap...
A traditional watercolor painting of a T4T couple leaning close for a kiss. The trans man, a mixed East Asian with a k-pop styled cut with bangs, leans against a plush bed backboard with an open shirt, showing top surgery scars. His partner, a curly brown haired Filipine baklâ with freckled skin and lace near their hips, leans close, back to the viewer. Intricately painted maroon lace decorates the back, along with an arrangement of freckled pink flowers, long turquoise flowers, and a soft white flower behind their heads. A softly lit watercolor painting of three panels, bordered by intricately painted branches of pomegranate and orange trees. The first panel, in the top left corner, shows both men kissing with one pressed against an intricately tiled wall in the Alhambra palace. One man has rich, warm brown skin and a turquoise headwrap that falls down over his shoulders and coat, which is decorated in intricate golden swirl patterns. The man kissing him has richer cooler-toned dark brown skin, with a white headwrap clipped together with a golden pin, wearing a white robe with intricate gold and red-gem inset details. Both have facial hair. The central painting, the largest panel, shows both men sitting in a public bath, although they are alone, gazing closely at each other, looking like they're about to kiss, arms resting on their legs as they gaze softly. They both have small, damp fabric around their waists, the colors matching their respective outfits. The man in the white cloth has braided cornrows, in a traditional Amazigh style. The man in the blue cloth gazes slightly down into his eyes, with his leg extended over the ledge of the bath, showing intricately painted and extensive burn scars including contractions. A cane rests on the shadowed wall beside him. The bath room itself is a pale yellow stone, shadowed in purple washes, with a central inset section bordered by a pattern of turquoise, dark blue, green, and red diamond tiles, interspersed with white tiles. The central inset part has the same pattern, but far smaller and more detailed. The final panel, in the bottom left, shows the turquoise and indigo robe of one of the men as he walks, using his cane, with his lover's hand holding his back for support. The blue robe has even more intricate swirling gold patterns, with a red sash and gold metal piece tying it together at the waist. A washy watercolor part hints at a garden in the background. A traditional watercolor illustration of two Congolese men kissing while floating in a river boat. One man holds the other in an embrace, an arm wrapped around his shirtless torso. He has slightly warmer toned skin, a muscular build, and short shaved hair with a traditional Indigenous front area with longer, natural hair in a tuft. The other man is tucked in close for a kiss, his own thin outstretched arm slightly concealing their lips. His curled hand rests outside the boat, shadowing the turquoise water beneath it. Both men are wrapped in traditional burlap-like fabrics, showing just enough to imply bare legs underneath. The hand-carved wooden canoe they rest in barely fits their embrace, and casts a shadow onto the slowly rippling water around them. Some yellow-green river weeds poke up in the bottom left corner, and a few palm branches hang over them at the top right. Thin lines provide clarity to the whole painting, with vibrant yet soft watercolors creating a natural and romantic aura. My first test with acrylic markers! A traditional sketchbook with torn paper edges, showing a gold skinned wingless angel with shadows made in deep pinks and purples. His hair is wavy, fairly short, and white, toned with many light colors of markers. He also has a long red scarf flowing away from him, and long gold earrings. The swatches of markers used decorate the back.

An angled photo of a portrait of Ephiel, a wingless angel with gold skin and a red scarf. The acrylic markers create multitoned skin and hair, with pinks, oranges, and purples shading his gold skin, and blues, yellows, purples, and pinks mixing to make his white hair. Swatches of all colors used border the edge.

A detailed watercolor painting of two figures leaning close, heads nearly touching, as one reaches to tenderly touch the other’s c-section scar. The trans man has short black hair and mixed Easy Asian features, and the other, although you can’t see their face, is a freckled Filipino with fairly curly hair and some lace on them. The trans man is reclining back, relaxed against a bed frame, and a little transmasc styled body hair is visible. detailed magenta lace decorates the background. Flowers, ranging from long speckled pink ones to white round ones to slender blue ones decorate the composition too.

Woke up to this news and I’m beyond disgusted. It’s a US *constitutional right* now to create and own ‘CSAM,’ as long as it was made with AI?? AI gen images are built from real images, of real children. This directly re-exploits every single CSAM survivor. (More in 🧵) #abolition #trafficking
A federal judge has ruled that the First Amendment protects an individual's right to privately possess child sexual abuse content created using Al if it does not depict a real person and remains in the home.
On Tuesday, Judge John Z. Lee of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th District ruled that the First Amendment protects an individual's right to privately possess images or videos of child sexual abuse created using artificial intelligence if the material does not depict a real person and remains in the home. In his ruling, Judge Lee urged the Supreme Court to reconsider the issue of virtual abuse material of children in the age of Al, suggesting that technological advances complicate existing legal precedent.
The case Lee ruled on came about in 2024 when the Department of Justice brought charges against Steven Anderegg, alleging that he used Al to create thousands of explicit images of children. He was accused of breaking federal obscenity laws by producing, distributing and possessing obscene visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Anderegg sought to have the possession and production charges dismissed under the First Amendment. Last year, a judge in the Western District of Wisconsin agreed to dismiss the possession charge, prompting the federal prosecutors to appeal.
Lee, in his ruling upholding the lower court's decision, cited the precedent set by Supreme Court rulings from 1969 and 2002. One held that individuals have a right to possess obscenity in the privacy of their home. The other found that "virtual" child sexual abuse material, not depicting a real person is not child pornography.

Okay I broke my promise about no longer posting about PPWR/EPR...but good news! The official FAQ was updated with a flowchart that confirms us small EU-based artists are NOT liable as producers. FAQ here: environment.ec.europa.eu/publications...
A flow chart showing information on transport packaging. The first step is Company A manufactures unbranded cardboard boxes for transport (mailing). Then arrows go to four options, which all means Company A remains the responsible producer. The options are: Sells to end user (customer) in another member state, sells to end user in the same member state, sells to Company B (i.e. a self-employed artist or small business) in the same member state, or the cardboard boxes carry the name or trademark of Company B located in the same member, but company B is a micro-enterprise. Company B is shown to only be the producer if they have trademarked packages and they are not a micro-enterprise (i.e. Amazon).

Ah so that’s the tricky thing with the language here, from what I understand! It does say that anyone putting packaging on a new market for distribution is the producer (nonhighlighted part of this image), but then says ‘however’ (which is a modifying clause) that amends the prior statement.

I can’t recopy the alt text but it’s this part of the guidelines: It requires: packaging only being filled (i.e. boxed for mail) at point of sale (personal home/office where you fulfill orders), and this only exempts small businesses (the ‘however’ after the paragraph that clarifies your 2nd point)

Basically, if you are a small business, and you only *fill* packaging (ex. a box, mailer, merch sleeve, etc.) at the ‘point of sale’ (your home or office), the producer MUST be the same as who was previously defined as the manufacturer (which is the company in your country you bought mailers from).
(Same alt text as first image in this thread)
382
Sapling 🌱 @sacredsapling.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
A manufacturer is, indeed, the person who finalizes packaging an item (ex. puts a print in a bubble mailer). But…as long as you don’t modify them to destroy their safety/recycling potential, and buy them from *your same company* (with or without your brand on them) you are NOT the manufacturer.
As regards sales packaging (except service packaging ( 5 )), or grouped packaging ( 6 ), the manufacturer is normally the economic operator that applies the final processing steps (e.g. cutting, filling, sealing) to the packaging supplied by converters (i.e. suppliers) and fills it with its product in order to then place the packaging or the packaged product on the Union market (Article 3(1), points (5)–(6)). In other words, for sales and grouped packaging, the manufacturer will normally be the filler, who is often also the product brand owner. However, if the company that has the packaging or packaged product designed or manufactured under its own name or trademark is a micro-enterprise, and the company supplying the packaging is located in the same Member State, then this supplier of the packaging is the manufacturer (Article 3(1), point (13)(b)). This is regardless of whether the latter company is also a micro-enterprise

Alright I THINK I found the loophole all of us shop owners in the EU are looking for with the PPWR*. It just requires us to buy shipping supplies in the same company we sell from. *I’m not a legal professional but this is from the officially published EU guidelines (Explained below)
A screenshot of the guidance with a part highlighted reading: “However, to minimise any unnecessary administrative burden for small businesses that fill transport packaging, primary production packaging or service packaging, whether as a single-use packaging or as reusable packaging, at the point of sale, the producer should be the manufacturer, distributor or importer of such packaging that makes the packaging available for the first time from within the territory of the Member State, since that economic operator is best placed to comply with the extended producer responsibility obligations.’”

Yeah, here you go! This is the part in the full text that specifies people using packaging are not producers, only those that put packaging on the market for the first time (as in, the companies making boxes and mailers that we then buy to ship with). Full law: eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg/2025...
The definition of primary production packaging should not entail an expansion of products being considered to be packaging under this Regulation. The introduction of that definition and its use in the definition of ‘producer’ should ensure that the natural or legal person making that kind of packaging available for the first time is considered to be the producer under this Regulation and not the primary sector businesses, such as farmers, using that kind of packaging.

Am I totally missing something on the PPWR EU packaging requirements…? I read the EU commission’s fact sheet and it looks like only packaging producers (not users, like those of us who buy mailers and ship with them) are liable for waste management.
A screenshot of the EU PPWR commission page reading ‘Obligations: Producers are responsible for the entire lifecycle of their packaging, including waste management. With additional bullet points that clarify this includes sorting and recycling, eco-friendly design, and financial transparency.

It’s me!! I’m SO excited for this idea and my sketch is already looking soooo pretty imo~ (I’m going to paint so much lace for this btw)
A close up of a clean pencil sketch on watercolor paper, showing a Korean trans man with a c-section scar leaning close ans about to kiss his transfeminine and baklâ partner, wearing lace on their hips. Some large flowers decorate the background.

I tend to prefer intimate but not explicit! Like this WIP, where they still have clothes but it’s clearly leading to something. Part of me wants to explore more direct stuff, but it doesn’t tend to inspire me as much. If anything, I want to do close crops or things like that.
A pencil sketch of a T4T couple leaning close, in only underwear and one with an open shirt showing top surgery scars. Detailed large flowers are in the background.

Example of a spreadsheet from our zine Kickstarter I've imported (excluding customer info shown ofc), so this is all that's needed to manually set up (and most things like BackerKit and Kickstarter likely have spreadsheets to export to simplify). Then it creates a label with the info automatically!
A screenshot of the end part of a spreadsheet showing columns for Destination Country, Item Name, Item SKU, Item Customs Value, Item Customs Value Currency, and Item Quantity (all automatically created from a Kickstarter export spreadsheet, the type formatted for EasyShip labels). A photo of a SendCloud shipping label being made by automatic import, that already includes all the details for a bookmark with the SKU WABHBookmarks, including origin country, quantity, unit value, currency, HS (tariff) code, and Intended use (base) code.

The base code here is a general consumer product for ages 13+, which is what everything from art prints to books (except kids books) to enamel pins would have. The base code is 130.006 If you apply this, it tells customs your product, regardless of tariff code, is for adult general use!
A screenshot of the official global product base codes, which matches those used by the US (this is from a US government document) showing the general consumer base codes under the 130 header, ranging from 130.001 for infants to 130.006 to 13+. A screenshot from https://business.cpsc.gov/ that shows the same description that matches the base code on the prior slide, but under the description for Children's and Adult Jewelry which is what applies to enamel pins.

Base codes are a code on a product's 'intended use' to see if it needs regulatory documents, recommended for customs but not required (but without, customs will just assume). It's different than a tariff code. Ex. below for our Tapling Zine's books!
A screenshot of a shipping CRM screen showing various product information for a book (although it's the same base code category as pins). A tariff code is on one line, with a separate base code on another titled as 'intended use code' and reading 'The code that indicates how the item is intended to be used. You can find more information on this document about intended use codes for ACE.' beneath it.

Hey. Nzuzi wants you to donate to this:
A watercolor doodle of Nzuzi, a skinny Congolese man in a patterned yellow and green shirt and long locs tied back in a ponytail, smiling lovingly with close eyes and open pink-stained lips. Little hearts swirl among a washy muted blue and pink background.
