As much as I understand the sentiment as someone with severe ME, being bedbound doesn’t count as torture under international law and calling it that is harmful to survivors of torture (who face even more medical barriers than ME patients). We should take care with our language 💜

Finally, the blue flower is a rare Jade Vine (tayabak) from The Philippines (a gem of the rainforest!). It provides sustenance to the Indigenous Luzon people, reminding us the world will always provide and connecting to Gabriel's own Filipine Indigeneity. It symbolizes uniqueness and pride!

Like this is why artists are so important! If someone sees a gorgeous painting of a hijabi, they may be a little less inclined to support anti-hijab or anti-Muslim laws for example. So, let’s keep creating and doing what we can! 💜

But for everyday people, it is important that we try to change their perspectives too! Sometimes that can just be by getting them to build friendships with people outside their ‘comfort zone’ (easier said than done haha) or making art they enjoy but anything like that does make an impact.

Yes I completely agree! I also am big on staying hopeful though. I’m lucky to be a part of some global projects fighting this sentiment with places like the UN and IOM, and there are good steps taking place too—if that gives some hope.

Fkdjfkdkska love the way you motivate yourself. I’m a ‘can swallow 6 large pills at once’ person but my husband is not. He does a trick where he sticks his tongue out and places the pill on the back, making it sort of naturally end up swallowed! Not sure if that could help
