I wonder whatever happened to GANs for image generation? I remember them being all the rage in 2019 (HyperGAN, StyleGAN etc). Somehow, the GAN’s output to me seems way more realistic that anything a diffusion model has produced Case in point: thispersondoesnotexist.com

TreeFrog is underrated as hell. I used it a few years ago and remember it felt like writing Qt C++ but without Qt. I think it’s maintained by a lone maintainer. Really happy to see it’s still getting new releases.

Right framing. It's not 320 vs lossless in one pass, it's generation loss. Lossy->lossy (mp3->aac over BT) is the real killer: each codec drops different bands, so cymbals & reverb tails smear. Keep lossless as the master, transcode at playout, never store the transcode.

The author is trying to write a heavy academic critique and language policing, but they lack the basic phonetic vocabulary to describe the sounds they're complaining about. What is a 'nasal "na"' and a 'flat "na"'? In Marathi, BOTH न (n dental) and ण (ṇ retroflex) are nasal consonants.

I connected my Fedora 43 laptop to the college WiFi and my laptop audio instantly went out. PipeWire had discovered like 50 macbook audio sinks and it was so busy creating and managing outputs for those random devices that my on device speakers weren't working lol #linux #fedora #pipewire
