Choosin Texas and Stella Lefty's Boston feel like they exist in a sort of cultural dark matter permeating the fabric of the zeitgeist yet entirely invisible to me. America B feels too proximate and tangible, this is like America C or D to me.

On the other site, an insurance startup that employs a lot of extremely minor E-list influencers for GTM is catching flack because one of the influencer employees called a woman a bitch and other such profanities.

Guy who is a swing voter between preventing the US government from being ransacked and becoming an international disgrace vs being able to say the r-word. There are probably a couple of these guys.

He is right. Getting fired for misgendering your trans coworkers is more of a detriment to some people than the collapse of American democracy is. That is a true statement. That's how a lot of people vote lol.

kids today are literally confused about whether "partying" was real or an urban legend
From Reddit:

> Did millennials really party all the time?

> Gen Z here. I was shocked when I found out from a millennial co-worker that y’all had teen clubs. I heard about house parties, but dedicated teen clubs? Then when it was time for college, you went to the club or had some kind of party every single weekend, living it up. Now some millennials on TikTok claim that after college, they were partying on work nights, still clocking in the next day. For some reason, the teen clubs have since disappeared. I’m 23 now but even when I was in high school, that was not a thing. House parties were not that common either. They were more like get togethers with a small group of friends. We went to malls, but they were dying out at that point. Is it true that you were really living life this good? Or is it just exaggerated? I feel like my generation doesn’t really have fun like that and everyone is just super depressed and alone, more so since Covid. Even I’m pretty introverted, which sort of sounds ridiculous given this post. 😂 Just so you know, when I think of a “millennial party” I think of something out of Party Rock Anthem, Project X or Roderick’s party from the second DOAWD movie. It’s like I get nostalgia from something I didn’t even live through. I just feel like I didn’t really LIVE, if that even makes sense

I feel like in math if everyone's like "oh yeah uh we kinda just forgot to name this" they should give it a really generic name. The last name named stuff should fit the vibe of the decade in which it was named.

Senior PowerPoint Engineer @ryxcommar.bsky.social · 04/08/2026
I feel like if you were born in 1878 and had a math concept named after you it should be scrutable to at minimum a 2nd year math major, not B+ high schoolers. The vibes are totally off on this naming decision.

learned what Frechet inequalities are today and I'm really mad because this Frechet guy was born in 1878. Euler and Gauss did superhuman work predating this guy's birth and this guy has a concept named after him that is so obvious that I didn't know it even had a name.

100% vibes based guess (tried and couldn't find data on this) but I think the increase in intensive parenting among upper middle class+ causes them to have lower trust in babysitters and other child caretakers. That and rising costs.

It's the FOC of maximizing the expected value of your wealth under a set of assumptions about what bets you are able to make. It doesn't matter what shape your actual utility function is so long as it is strictly increasing. Kelly makes assumptions about bet structures, not utility.
010
Senior PowerPoint Engineer @ryxcommar.bsky.social · 24/07/2026
that might change in case of single bet. i dunno. but in that case, that's really just what i mean by the variance in the outcomes.
000
Senior PowerPoint Engineer @ryxcommar.bsky.social · 24/07/2026
not really useful to think of log(x) as a utility function in Kelly betting. It's not really acting as a utility function. Even if your utility function was really funky, but strictly increasing and you can do infinite all or nothing bets of any size, you'd still use Kelly criterion.

Senior PowerPoint Engineer @ryxcommar.bsky.social · 24/07/2026
The person explicitly mentioned E[log(x)]. And indeed, what I said is 100% true if you care about specifically E[log(x)].
010
Senior PowerPoint Engineer @ryxcommar.bsky.social · 24/07/2026
Fwiw it's still possibly sensible to not take the kelly bet here because of nonrepeatability and dispersion of outcomes. Kelly only asks what maximizes expected value of log wealth.

This is so incredibly untrue. Literally the most banal log(net worth) utility function says this is not strictly true

Kelly criterion!

If your goal is to maximize the expected value of log(net worth), then you are indifferent at starting net worth of £2,778; anything higher and it's better to take the 50-50.

(1) The claim is about real wages since 1990. (2) The reason the line spiked up in 2020 and went back down is because people who were unemployed during the early part of the pandemic disproportionately had lower wages.

The fact that the best games of all time are recent-ish games and are so underpriced doesn't preclude the fact that the vast majority of the game industry is slop. Exceptions that prove the rule. You can only make good games with wage slave Japanese salarymen or passionate irrational maniacs.

The best games today are so much better than the best games 2-3 decades ago. Elden Ring is the best video game of all time and it came out in 2022. Celeste is a better 2-D platformer than anything Nintendo ever put out (honorable mention to Yoshi's Island though). They should cost triple.

Video games are incredibly underpriced, and the stinginess of gamers is a big reason why so much of the industry is slop and why game development is a terribly underpaid career. Adjusted for inflation, Mario World 3's MSRP of $49.99 in 1990 is equivalent to $128 today. We must retvrn.

Given how much Shapiro won Pennsylvania in 2022 by-- a higher margin than Fetterman!-- there's a good argument that you didn't need to send some salt-of-the-earth oddball to the US Senate and hopefully that happens this year in Maine too.

I'm not sure what the ratio is among Platner fans in media who have malfunctioning vibe detectors and genuinely liked him vs those who clocked the bad vibes and thought "yes, this is what the idiot swing voting masses want." I honestly can't say I'm completely unsympathetic to the latter.

Platner should drop out obviously but bigger picture I don't know how you balance out the fact that the median voter in swing states is a lumpenprole mildly racist loser who vote based on the beer question and the fact that the candidates who appeal to them are by and large also losers.

I have edited a lot of sexual-assault-accusation articles, and this one easily clears every veracity check: contemporaneous emails with her therapist, a boyfriend who knew, a woman she warned—all before Platner ran for office. Good on Politico for nailing it, and on Jenny Racicot for speaking up.
