i was today years old when i found out that the iconic pale blue dot image was taken on valentine’s day somehow that adds way more meaning to the picture 🥺
The iconic ‘Pale Blue Dot’ photograph taken by Voyager 1, with Earth appearing as a tiny point of light inside a pale vertical sunbeam against the dark expanse of space.

First look at parachutes in Kitten Space Agency. Chute physics “sleep” once landed, but if you don’t cut them, they’ll wake up and continue simulating when forces are applied again.

Kittens can now collide with ground clutter 🐱🪨 As part of our next milestone, we're adding interactions between kittens and objects scattered across the terrain. Ground clutter can use simple collision shapes or more detailed convex hulls, like the rocks shown here.

solar eclipse AND a meteor shower tonight, i love being a space nerd!!!
The Moon is seen covering the Sun during a solar eclipse from San Millán de los Caballeros, Spain, Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026. A total solar eclipse swept across parts of Greenland, Iceland, northern Russia, the Atlantic Ocean, Spain, and a small corner of Portugal. A Partial eclipse was visible in parts of the U.S., most of Canada, much of Europe, and northwest Africa. Gosh Starship flight 13 was genuinely amazing. I can't wait for it to finally go orbital next flight, and even have a ship catch attempt! I feel like the team there is finally hitting their stride. The rest of the year and early next year we're going to see some awesome, rapid progress.

this is the surface of a comet. yes, a COMET.

we need another picture like this, every human in one photo except the one taking it.

The first version of vehicle-to-vehicle collision physics has now been committed to Kitten Space Agency. KSA uses its existing lightweight physics methods during flight, then switches to the Bepu Physics library whenever vehicles contact each other or the terrain.

Kitten Space Agency just got a little more cosmic. We’ve added the Milky Way into the skybox, bringing more depth, scale, and atmosphere to spaceflight, orbital views, and planetary surfaces. Whether you’re coasting above the atmosphere or looking up from a planet, space should feel vast.

how can you not be romantic about space
A cluster of stars inside a large nebula. The clouds of gas and dust are predominantly bright red in colour and wispy, akin to flames. They are clumped in the bottom-left corner. Other clouds, deeper in the cluster behind many of the stars, appear pale pink. The stars are concentrated in the top half of the image and are mostly small, bright white and six-pointed. They cast blue light over the nebula. Other stars with very long spikes surrounding them lie in the foreground.
Colorful nebula in space with a white haze throughout that is more concentrated in the center with a rippling effect. Colorful gas filaments appear to splash outward from the nebula center, colored yellow, magenta, and blue. A faint black border with right angles at the corners of the images show where the telescope’s field of view stopsdotted line with right angles shows the borders of the telescope’s image. Small white stars dot the background.A large planetary nebula. The nebula’s central star is hidden by a blotchy pinkish cloud of dust. A strong red light radiates from this area, illuminating the nearby dust. Two large loops extend diagonally away from the centre, formed of thin ridges of molecular gas, here coloured blue. They stretch out to the corners of the view. A huge number of bright, whitish stars cover the background, also easily visible through the thin dust layers.A beautiful, nearly face-on spiral galaxy in shades of blue and pink fills the view. Its bright-white core is bisected with rusty-brown clouds that extend into the inner part of the galaxy’s spiral arms. Bright reddish-pink star forming regions shine like beacons that dot its spiral arms.

stressed? breathe and look at our beautiful planet for a bit.
A full disk image of Earth, as seen from the Orion capsule. The planet is a pale blue, swirling with white clouds and glowing slightly lighter blue in place from reflected light. From about 8 to 9 o'clock, a large brown landmass is Africa, with the Iberian peninsula twinkling with lights just where the planet curves. At the 1 o'clock spot, aurora glow in a thin green glow, just barely separated from the planet's surface. Earth is set against the black of space. Credit: NASA/Reid Wiseman

the images of earth from artemis ii are absolutely gorgeous
Earth as seen from the Orion capsule. It is divided sharply in half, with a line running diagonally from the 11 o'clock to the 4 o'clock. The lower left half is a bright pale blue. Its surface is covered with swirly, puffy white clouds, with texture indicating different thicknesses. The upper right half is dark, with no illumination from the Sun. The planet is a dreamy pale blue, swirling with white clouds and reflected sunlight. Although Earth only fills a fraction of the image it is the brightest object in the image by far. The capsule window is surrounded by a thick frame held in place with bolts, reminiscent of a heavy duty airplane window. It is dark in the capsule, but the outlines of straps and various components of the capsule are visible. Brighter white components are visible in the upper right corner. Beautiful. This is why I think space exploration is worth it. When you compare it to the cost of everything else, it is relatively small. In the end, we get to marvel at the majesty of our home, and are reminded of the need to protect it. #Artemis2

I tire of how awful twitter has become. I want to be able to talk about spaceflight stuff without all that around. But I checked here again, and it still just feels so empty. So do I want to live in a town with crap everywhere, but tons of people, or live in a clean ghost town? It's rough.
