Assigning agency to techniques seems to me to be an attempt to avoid responsibility. “I used TDD & got poorly designed/unreliable/hard to understand code—not my fault.”

A literary festival and #Eastbourne go together like tea and a great book (on the craft of writing in this case by the awesome Ursula K. Le Guin, “Steering the Craft” — highly recommended!). Help us make Eastbourne Literary Festival a reality here: www.eastbourneliteraryfestival.com/contact

I've been so looking forward to this interview coming out. Barbara Oakley was an absolutely joy to interview. I'm incredibly lucky with all the wonderful, amazing people I get to interview for the lovely people at @gotocon.com but I have to admit this one is a personal favorite.

Every time I talk about learning to read code, a million* people chime in with "let's just write readable code". This misses the point. Yes, please do that. But when you inherit a codebase, and when you let AI generate your code, you don't have any choice. trishagee.com/2020/09/07/r...

As a general note, when designing an SDK, try to avoid forcing design decisions onto your users, as to how they write their code. You may believe that "you know best" but you cannot know their context. If you want to be opinionated, provide defaults, but allow an escape route.
