Failed at continuing this thread because I got tired but followed BONE TEMPLE with an at-long-last viewing of THE SUBSTANCE. Not sure the movie is good, exactly. Did enjoy the Glam Guignol of it all. It's got what I keep thinking of as a WWE sort of energy, which I can't really complain about.

It is wonderful. I already want to listen again just to enjoy his performance. He adds a level of sensitivity that deepend some of the details that might have seemed a little obvious to me if I read on my own.

Sick, so I'm not working today, so I'm catching up on 2026 movies. First: BACKROOMS. Loved this, a delightful intersection of a lot of things that fascinated me in the last six months. Infuriating that this was made by someone who is barely not a child.

This scales up to, like, houses. Someone complained about water messing up their back yard. Could I do better than the $4k bid they got to trench a new drain? Yeah, your downspout's broken. Water isn't being moved where you want it. They hadn't noticed. $100 solves most of the problem.

I fix a lot of things for people now and it's often 90% cleaning, 10% replacing some minor part.

A sad aspect of planned obsolescence for everything is people no longer seem to care for stuff? Not even "we don't fix things now" but "why would I maintain this thing?" Can't tell you the number of times a client says "oh that doesn't work any more" and it's just because they... never cleaned it?

The closest thing Kahn has had to success on his own creative terms is with movies that fit exactly this description. But it wasn't close enough so his creative peak is executing Taylor Swift's vision for videos 🤷‍♂️
