As we weigh up the evidence it surely leads us to believe that the answer to the “assisted dying” question, is, at the very least, “not now”.

🚨BREAKING BIG MOMENT! Burnham says assisted suicide debate should not take place until palliative & social care is properly funded. The PM is right, and his Labour MPs must now unite in opposition to the deeply divisive assisted suicide Bill & reject it at Second Reading.

A change in Labour leader could kill the bill

Revealing from the New Statesman: Andy Burnham is likely to oppose the assisted suicide Bill. Given the likelihood of Burnham returning to Westminster later this week, and a potential leadership challenge not long after, bringing assisted suicide back is not wise. @laurenedwardsmp.bsky.social

These organisations do not have a principled opposition to assisted dying. They have said so countless times. They have instead pointed out their many concerns with this specific bill. It would be wise to research this.

Given @laurenedwardsmp.bsky.social left Twitter over the use of an ableist slur, it would be a really bad look for her to bring back an assisted suicide Bill universally opposed by disability & learning disability groups, who’d be put at grave risk by the Bill.

Dear @laurenedwardsmp.bsky.social As a community of disabled people across England, including your constituency, we hope you are not considering using your place in the ballot to table another Assisted Dying bill. This is just one reason why.
A BuDS Disability Service infographic reading "Bringing another Assisted Dying Bill back without any attempt to address the real concerns of disabled people looks like another attack on disabled people, and brings the Government and Parliament into disrepute".
