I'm happy to go with disgusted or upset or enraged or even "we played out an intense CNC scene" but I never, as a writer, want someone to walk away from my book feeling that I have raped them and it was caught on camera and in a group chat.

As a writer and a survivor myself, I still write about rape and think it's really fucking important to tell stories about rape and abuse regardless of how nasty or disgusting or awful they are. I don't want someone walking away from my texts feeling like Jane Doe.

obviously gothic fiction can and often is a way of talking about sexual violence, but you can tell by the way a lot of these dude talk about rape in horror that a) they're missing that point and b) rape is about as real an experience as going to Dracula's castle themselves
