Where's the chart from? I'd be interested to see SF numbers, especially after seeing thousands of Lyft bikes in use this weekend for HSB

Yeah, it often scares me too, it scares a lot of people. SF is scary to bike in.

I agree drivers here are very unsafe, but people say that about the buses too and the reality is that the buses are pretty safe. For both it's more about the feeling of safety. For bikes I think we need to go beyond safe, more concrete barriers and bollards probably.

About 9% of San Francisco can't vote for him, is in another district, sadly

Never taken a cruise but my understanding from a couple friends is that many people are not paying sticker price, and so it comes out to similar prices to hotels in any other place you'd want to visit

I agree Waymo is safe as-is. That said, if there are many instances of documented systemic rule-breaking, I still expect the state to investigate.

The state stepped in when Cruise was out of line. Why aren't they stepping in when Waymo crosses the line? Not severe enough in their eyes until the company is hiding evidence?

They should, but generally don't, have these rights

They're trying to cover up choosing MST instead of the superior PST, oh well

They really should adjust this CPI thing for how much total people spend on each thing, shouldn't they

My theory is that it's mostly people comparing their own family life experiences to people they meet outside of family life. Of course people are going to act more individualistic when you see them at work or on the street compared to how they act with their grandmother at home.

As someone with an aging parent in California in a house that is larger than needed: the reason they're not in an apartment is because all the housing stock of any quality in their city are houses. No new apts. BTW, it's actually easy to store wealth in other ways than your house, if allowed to.

Isolation? Those NATO countries did decide to help the US actually, that's called cooperation. Bush fumbled it later.

I read it as: if you're moving by choice, even to avoid an eventual unavoidable situation, then you are less worthy than those who did not have the choice

It's called price discrimination, and it's a big way that the rich pay more for things.. those with more money are willing to pay more and corporations will try to play to that

I'm leaning towards a total accident, France isn't that color and no other overseas territories of any country are marked like that

Bike lanes help me so much with this. I can see it still not being enough for many cases, but I continue to bike with some frequency because I can get where I want to go on 90% bike lanes

I think I prefer that over the opposite, the people I know who are ideological and start from theory first have the craziest ideas. Unless they're georgist

Important to note that "consensual, mutually beneficial exchange" is basically "having an economy".

760 fewer families who need cars to take BART. The parking spaces were net keeping people out, not helping people ride.

Every stop the 14 makes in SF at rush hour adds enough time that the 14R gets me home about 20 minutes faster. And that's for a 5 mile trip. This "3 minutes" thing is bad faith.

This is true but it's also one of the few kinds of wealth you can redistribute without negative effects on the economy, via LVT. With a full LVT those prices would become decoupled from the country's growing wealth.

You said separate tunnel, I'm unclear on what that means; just a more underground N or a new parallel line?

xander @rudel.is · 03/09/2026
Would a second tunnel to the sunset definitely over-perform an 8/9 bus corridor rail line?

I did not expect that in GB the signage looks the same as Europe's km/h limits but means mph! I have been but have not driven there.
