Facebook has an ad about a young entrepreneur who got her start bc of being on Facebook. Tagline for the ad: “The future belongs to Riley”. Though ironically, Riley started a business rebuilding classic muscle cars, so that future will be tough bc of climate change www.facebook.com/watch/?v=228...

It's those data privacy ones which really concern me. But it's also just... a very basic loss of a future where we had decided we Solved a Problem. Cars could age much more gracefully if they weren't expected to be interfacing with so many services which come and go and left that to the tech people

Can Decentralized Energy Prevent The Next Crisis? - PopularResistance.Org
After International Energy Agency executive director Fatih Birol labeled the ongoing global energy turmoil the “biggest energy security threat in history” in April, events over the summer vindicated his warning. The United States authorized the grid operator Southwest Power Pool, Inc. to use backup generation resources in 17 states it serves amid growing demand and extreme heat in late July, while droughts forced European nuclear plants to reduce or halt operations in August. EU gas stocks reached a record low during the last week of August, and Bangladesh further tightened restrictions on business operating hours as its gas shortage worsened.

And various other points of our supply chain as well. The best thing we could do is to optimize everything along with repurposing/reusing stuff. I try to look at both the small and big picture.

Can we petition for Coyote vs. Acme to be released with both a DRM and DRM-free copy when it is released at home? Otherwise, I just want 3 discs(DVD, normal Blu-Ray, Ultra HD) all in one package. I am willing to buy it for a lot if I could actually own a copy perpetually. #DRMFree #CoyoteVSAcme

They could have sold them or donate them and still claim fair use. This is specifically about RARE books, not undersold.

Wait, so you DON'T have to rip the binding off and shred the book after? Revolutionary. Oh wait, it takes human labour. That explains why AI companies would never do this.

I'd imagine the assertion is because they have destroyed the books and because at that point they can't be identified as having been scanned since AI does not really 'keep' a copy of the actual literature. It just figured out how the information connects.

I think as long as the artist/artist's direct beneficiaries are involved, I'm fine with life + long term. I go absolutely no when it comes to corporations owning the copyright. Any corporation not wholly-owned by the artist? You get 5 years if the artist sells it, maybe 10 if I'm feeling generous.

Yeah, I'm pretty anti-modern copyright law. It's all bullshit to keep companies like Disney in money and to keep their stuff out of public domain. I'd like to see us go back to the original 14 years with chance to renew for an additional 14. None of this life of author + 70 years if after 1978 BS.

As a ton of incompetent lobbied people had made it legally preferable to destroy them in the name of "fair use" in the name of being scared of "copies". I already have a plan that would make it harder for them to get away with this crap.

Closest one is Clara BW. Both have competitive advantages. The verse pro is $30 more(where I am), has an open sdk, and is surprisingly easy to install koreader on(without anything special). Kobo's main advantage is the Kobo store.
