I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. Stay free

My daughter’s speech therapist went out of business because Medicaid reimbursement rates were too low. We do not have Medicaid. I’m going to keep posting this until people understand that when Medicaid gets cut *everyone* loses services.

Somehow the following two things are true: - most actual scientists cannot read my work for free, and there are strict rules about when/whether I’m allowed to send a copy of my work to an interested fellow scientist - Mark Zuckerberg can just steal it and use it to train his AI tools for profit.

We were spoiled by our wonderful hosts, the Philippine Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists. I'm so lucky to get to do what I do!

Throwback to this great summary about manual therapy (Rhon and Deyle, 2021): "Insisting that manual therapy is passive *betrays a lack of understanding* of the intervention. Assuming manual therapy is passive does little to determine its value as an intervention."

Happy new year! Today we celebrate the 30-year anniversary of a meta-analysis of 22 placebo-controlled studies (Gam, 1995) which described the evidence for US for MSK disorders. NONE of them gave evidence that pain relief could be achieved by US. Prepare students for their future, not our past.

The National Health Interview Survey using data through 2020 showed that 9% of people avoid medical care due to the cost. This likely dissuades potential PT patients due to the frequency of PT visits compared to medical visits.

Racial Disparities in Outpatient Physical Therapy Use After Hip Fracture: A Retrospective Cohort Study | Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy
INTRODUCTION: The objective of our study was to examine whether there is a racial disparity among Medicare beneficiaries in the likelihood of using outpatient PT services following a hip fracture. METHODS: Our retrospective descriptive cohort study analyzed administrative claims data for 51,781 Medicare beneficiaries post-hip fracture. We examined the association between race and physical therapy (PT) use within the first 6 months post-fracture using hierarchical logistic regression, adjusting for demographics, medical complexity, and socioeconomic factors. We used Poisson regression to examine the association between race and the number of PT visits. RESULTS: Only 31% of beneficiaries used outpatient PT after hip fracture with significant racial disparities. After controlling for demographics, medical complexity, and socioeconomic factors, Black beneficiaries had 42% lower odds of using PT [aOR = 0.58, 95% CI 0.51-0.66] compared to White beneficiaries. Among PT users, Black beneficiaries received fewer visits than White beneficiaries (RR = 0.85, 95% CI 0.82-0.88) with this disparity persisting after adjustments (RR = 0.88, 95% CI 0.85-0.91). CONCLUSION: Even after adjusting for demographic, medical, and socioeconomic factors, Black beneficiaries were less likely to use outpatient PT following hip fractures. Conditional on an initial PT evaluation, Black beneficiaries received fewer sessions.
