When was the last time a book really blew your mind? Last year, I started coming out of the reading famine known as ‘the toddler years’ I had read, but mostly Big 5 books I’d heard about on podcasts (the one thing I could consume, because I could listen during housework, errands—iykyk)

My 5yo saw @markabowles.bsky.social’s new book (@galleybeggars.bsky.social) and said, ‘How do people stay the same? Because they’re all human, that’s why! It should say, how do people stay different, because people have different colour eyes, different teeth shape. It doesn’t even talk about…

Because very little light reflects back out of this hole, it appears dark or black, essentially acting as a window into the hollow, dark interior of the eye.
