I, a nonfootballish person, spent most of the game giggling that the logo looked more like lix than LIX and pronouncing it licks. Super Bowl Licks.

My kids discovered that you can sing “So Long Farewell Auf Wiedersehen Good Bye” to the melody from “Look Down” in Les Mis and I will never again know peace (but I am duly impressed by their enthusiasm).

“We’re running out of good ideas.” What? No we’re not? Who says this? What an utterly bogus premise to even begin from.

These clowns trying to turn everything into vocational education are preparing students for an economy that won't exist in four years. NO ONE KNOWS WHERE THE JOBS WILL BE. "A.i." major? Christ almightly. Deeply irresponsible.

I dared to look at the Reddit sub for the theft place, and 1) those people don't understand that when they say "down with corporations" that creators are not part of corps 2) they refuse to acknowledge libraries + free library apps exist

People who pirate books: “I just think art and literature should be FREE to everyone!” Yes, I too would love to live in a world where art is accessible freely to all and yet artists are paid a living wage, but as this magical wagical pixie wixie land does not exist, please don’t steal from us.

It's interesting how easily a lot of ppl say oh it's over, it's inevitable just use it. Most Artists I know aren't like that. From day one. They are built different. They are resistant to conformity. You're not going to tell them what to do or say. Don't tell me what to say gpt. I speak for me.

The reason many of the commentators don’t like Bluesky is because the infrastructure is set up in a way that no longer benefits them. On Twitter it was always easier to gain an audience by purposefully saying things that upset people. Getting ratio-ed was a tactic. Here, that’s much harder.

my statement on Ai from the mini-comic I'm making as syllabus for a new class I'm teaching this fall. It's simple, but I pretty much said all I have to say on it - it robs you of decisions and struggle - and the joy of being surprised. It robs you of learning...
a snippet of a mini-comic, at top - straight line stretches from point A to B. Immediately below, same dot at A, then becomes a curving, meandering line that winds through the page and ends at a point with rays and a question mark emanating from it. Text reads: "Nothing can do this for you - that robs you of experience and conflates answers with learning. Rather, it's all the decisions you make along the way, the mistakes, struggles, and surprises! These pathways you create - this is learning.

OMG this. Authors are a group of people in which imposter syndrome runs rampant, creating work without a performance element so without immediate feedback from the audience, often with no idea how our work is faring, no control over it, often with out of date sales data. Prime brain weasels fodder.

The question I’ve never had someone answer to any satisfaction when it comes to AI is “Why would you want to outsource thinking? Why would you cede your freedom of creation and expression and ideation to someone else, let alone a computer program?”

You know, I thought "Best Books for Summer" and similar lists rehashing variations on the same 20-30 titles over and over wasn't great, but at least they featured real books people could, presumably, read.
