Spatial dependency / Tobler's law? In geography we often use spatial weights and geo specific methods such as spatial lag/error models, geographic weighted regression; to account for varying spatial relationships across a study area.

I think transparency can attract more criticism. UK policing often neglects to provide context or analysis alongside open access. This means sometimes it becomes misrepresented and misused (good can be done also, but tends to gain less traction).
110
Iain @routineactivity.bsky.social · 20/02/2025
Yes. The Amnesty report demonstrates the extent of transparency required in UK by the level of detail it was able to obtain via freedom of information requests, open data sources, privacy notices, open access policing journals etc
110
Iain @routineactivity.bsky.social · 20/02/2025
Simple interpretable and explainable methods have often found more favour among leaders in policing because, inevitably, they will be asked to explain and communicate decisions to a range of non-police audiences. Very advanced methods can often receive a great deal of internal scrutiny and testing.

I thought this was disappointing. It starts with a conclusion, then proceeds to push a narrative towards that conclusion, whilst ignoring evidence to the contrary. No attempt to unpick data, stats, ML, AI - all muddied together. This fails to be a credible critique
