At any point any postdoc has had a 1,2,3,5 page research statement, teaching statement, curatorial, 5 year vision plan. It would be nice if across specific bio fields we could standardize some document length/types.

I think this is excellent and always more guidance is better. However, one of the big problem with materials that I see and that specific rubrics could worsen is that every institution requires already so many different lengths and types of materials.

Who at #botany2026 is thinking about which talks to see tomorrow? Maybe I humbly recommend our talk on Physalis phylogenomics where we ask the question, why are there so many tomatillo species 50 million years after a (famous to Solanologists) bottleneck? Tomorrow 1:30pm in San Ignacio!

I understand the need for documentation, but a lot could be clarified simply by speaking directly to an administrator. This gives me flashbacks of trying to claim mileage from a trip and getting into a loophole because the typical road was closed due to landslides = 4 meetings totalling 3 hours.

This work is the result of a lot of persistence, my co-authors especially @draverbee.bsky.social and @nicrodemo.bsky.social, greatly improved by reviewers and handling editors. Poricidal anthers evolved multiple times but this phenotype stayed in lineages 50 my after the origin of all angiosperms.
