At #Botany2026, I was hoping to start recruiting for my lab group. If you are interested in polyploidy and population genetics, please reach out.
Interested in Polyploidy and Population Genetics?

Florida State University, Join the Gaynor Lab. My lab is open to both Ph.D. and master students through the Ecology and Evolution area in Biological Sciences at FSU - applications are due December 1st!
I also have funding to support a postdoctoral researcher and a technician during my first three years at FSU. The postdoctoral researcher will focus on polyploidy population genomics. The technician will help with lab work including flow cytometry for genome size estimation and DNA sequencing preparation.

If you are interested in joining the lab, please send me an email with a CV/resume and a brief explanation of your research interests and your career goals

Find out more at mlgaynor.com and email me at shellyleegaynor at gmail.com

Interesting new tool to extract phylogenies from images (Tremble). It is crazy that this is still something we have to do. doi.org/10.1093/bioi...

Delighted to share our paper on data equity in #palaeobiology as part of Paleobiology's 50th anniversary issue 🥳 We look at how palaeo data is collected, stored, curated & shared, and how equity in these processes is crucial for our field's future (1/n) 🧪⚒️ doi.org/10.1017/pab....
Simplified flowchart illustrating generalised steps in palaeobiological research processes and the various factors that introduce inequity with regard to data collection, storage, study, analysis, publication, and reuse.

This image is a meme using humor to highlight a frustration in academic research. The top part, labeled "A GAP IN THE LITERATURE," represents the perception of a research gap—a topic that appears to be unexplored or insufficiently studied in academic work. The bottom part, labeled "NON-ENGLISH PAPER THAT NO ONE READS," humorously suggests that such a "gap" often exists not because the topic is unstudied but because the relevant research is published in languages other than English and overlooked by English-speaking researchers.

This reflects a common issue in academia where language barriers result in valuable non-English studies being underutilized or ignored, perpetuating the appearance of gaps in the literature.

Here's a starter pack for early career researchers in evolutionary biology. I prioritized the most-junior folks, and this list quickly filled up with undergrads, grad students, and postdocs. Might do another list later, but I'm tired. Have fun everyone! 🐒 #evobio go.bsky.app/MzND7nX
