It’s a foul, isn’t it? Let’s be honest

Ross Gregory @rossgregory9.bsky.social · 10/05/2026

A very 2025/26 typical NUFC performance. Game should have been out of sight with 10 to go. Woeful forward play and weak mentality means they don’t win. Vital that top quality forwards and a goalkeeper are brought in during the summer

I’d happily pay £60m for Harry Kane

Eddie Howe, besides being a very good manager, is someone who cares about Newcastle. He cares about the people and he’s invested in community. NUFC have had too many managers for whom it’s just a job, who don’t care about the long term. We can all name them. Don’t chase out one who really gets it

Big calls paid off. Osula, Burn, Murphy, Willock all contributed at times. Second half was nervy but the win will do the confidence no end of good. No doubt the X whiners will still find something to complain about but let’s enjoy the win for now

That NUFC front 3… I’m a massive Sir Edward fan but not sure about that selection!

So how we feeling about NUFC today then people?

Much improved Newcastle performance. The same old issues of a lack of quality in the final third remain, plus switching off at times defensively. But a lot of positives to take despite another defeat

Chelsea are often used as the model that works, regularly changing managers and still winning trophies. That's not the type of club I want to support, though - ruthless, soulless, with an entitlement that makes you want to scream. See Spurs also There's a risk that Newcastle could go that way.

Ross Gregory @rossgregory9.bsky.social · 23/04/2026

I wrote this piece in February. 10 weeks on and with Spurs and Chelsea having gone through another 3 managers between them, it still feels relevant www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/footba...

Newcastle can't be a soulless husk ravaged by entitlement - PIF must be careful

As the noise gets louder around Eddie Howe, Newcastle United must decide what their ambitions are

Tough tough watch. Ponderous in possession, so many players off the boil. At the other end, they look nervous and lacking structure/solidity. Liverpool will destroy this defence on this viewing

Ross Gregory @rossgregory9.bsky.social · 10/03/2025

Going to struggle to create much down that left side - getting into great positions but then it stops and slows down as Livramento and Barnes come back inside

Ross Gregory @rossgregory9.bsky.social · 10/03/2025

You can see why #NUFC are so desperate for a new keeper mind Preferably one that doesn’t have wooden legs

010

Ross Gregory @rossgregory9.bsky.social · 26/02/2025

That's a very good Liverpool side. There are areas of concern for #NUFC - Bruno and Gordon's form, injuries, Pope, goals conceded... The Carabao Cup final will be won and lost in midfield though. Liverpool are so strong there. Newcastle need Joelinton back and Bruno on song.

One thing that doesn’t bother me about Wembley trip is Trafalgar Square. Enjoy the occasion, yes, but a small-time ‘look at us on our day out’ mentality doesn’t sit right. Turn up, win the game, THEN have a party. I’ve been to Wembley 5 times with NUFC. It is utter shit when you lose

End of a busy first week as head of sport for Chronicle and Gazette I made a couple of mistakes and we got a few things right too. Regional sports media is tough right now but looking forward to next 6 months, developing the coverage - and hopefully with some success on pitch 🤞 Now…I need a drink!

⚠️ Obligatory personal news note On Monday, I'll be starting a 6 month secondment as Head of Sport for the North East with Reach - working on the Chronicle and Gazette, covering #nufc #safc + #boro. Looking forward to building on the good work already being done and implementing some new ideas 👍

I’ve already gone on record to say that Kieran Trippier is the best right back I’ve seen at Newcastle. The way Lewis Hall is going, I may have to review my left back choice too…!

Unreal first 30 minutes for United - absolutely smashed their opponents. Outstanding performance and win - should have been even more. What a way to end the year for #nufc 👏👏👏

Manuel Ugarte and Bruno Fernandes suspended for Monday. Tonali, Guimaraes and Joelinton bang in form too. Big opportunity to get an Old Trafford win

Ross Gregory @rossgregory9.bsky.social · 11/12/2024

Newcastle’s problem is they don’t have the funds to buy a right winger, centre half and striker in January. They will have to get creative and try the loan market or cash in on someone they probably don’t want to sell. Bruno, Barnes, Willock perhaps. Other option is to limp to the end of season 🤦‍♂️

Great thing about the Bruno and Tonali partnership is it is interchangeable. Here, Tonali is deeper and finds Bruno - but for the first goal, Tonali makes a run beyond Isak and Bruno is the one sat deep feeding the pass through. The pair can complement each other

Whatever Eddie Howe does the rest of this season, he has to find a way of making this man the heartbeat of the side. So much talent
