HAPPY FIRST DAY OF WORLD SPACE WEEK!!! SPACE IS SO BEAUTIFUL

A region of space filled with bright stars and clouds of gas. In the center, the densest clouds form the shape of a chest with its lid open. The chest appears to glow from within. At its base it breaks apart into long pillars of thick gas. Many of the gas clouds in the background are dark orange globules, while others form large, pale hazes. A few brightly shining stars lie in the foreground, the biggest and brightest in front of the chest’s lid.

A colorful nebula filled with reddish-brown and golden clouds of gas and dust, dotted with many bright blue-white stars. A very bright star near the center glows through a faint bluish haze, while darker cloud formations create dramatic shapes around the scene.

A richly detailed star-forming region filled with glowing purple, pink, orange, and brown clouds of gas and dust. Thousands of stars are scattered across the black background, with bright lavender regions illuminating the surrounding nebula and dark dust lanes cutting through the center.

A spiral galaxy. It has a prominent spiral arm on one side (lower left) and a wide, glowing core. Dark brown filaments of dust swirl through its disk, while blue clusters of stars are visible mostly going out to its arm. On the opposite side of the arm (upper right), gas trails off from the disk, beyond the field of view in this image. A matching spiral arm is not visible on this side. The galaxy lies on a dark background.

This twisted and magnificent holly tree is what you get if you give them many decades to grow in an ancient woodland. Slow growing but worth the wait.

Holly tree, with a two-foot wide trunk and gnarled elephant-hide bark. Halfway up the frame, the trunk splits into three secondary trunks. in the background are lush green leaves. Offa's Dyke Path above the Wye Valley near Tidenham.

Pileated Woodpecker for #BirdOfTheDay #Black&Red

Closeup of a Pileated Woodpecker in a tree surrounded by thick branches. The bird has a red cap and a red bar on the cheek. The face is striped with black and white. The body is black.

Another Pileated Woodpecker closeup. This time the bird is facing the camera looking down.

If the dumbest guy in your office kept telling everyone he’s a genius the entire company would be mocking this man every day. Somehow that guy is President.

The Texas state flower is the Bluebonnet. It is a blue flower. Just a little factoid for your Saturday.

A Bluebonnet flower bloom with multiple arrays of blue and blue-white petals on a single stem.

Watch how much federal emergency aid (from El Niño disasters next year) gets _not_ sent to red states that swing blue this year. Trump does not take disloyalty well.

Trump really endorsing the Titanic here - permanent DST was tried in the 1970s and everyone hated it so much that they quickly ended the experiment. Year-round standard time makes the most sense, but there are moneyed interests persistently opposing this regularity.
