Got myself a Kelly Kettle (or generic equivalent) a few years ago. Boils water for tea amazingly fast, and makes a fair stab at cooking up some soup or baked beans etc, and even making toast. Pretty good, just take a few small dry sticks and paper to get it started and away you go. Wood-powered.

Average UK home uses about 2500 kWh/year. Assume you have batteries to even things out, that needs about 285W . I'm not sure a 'suitcase sized' water turbine can produce 2.5kW from the flow of the stream, but if you pipe it...see below. Some impressive things from China. I'm tempted...
