I finally finished my embellished hanging display setup for @soengery.bsky.social ‘s plaque!! I love them, they’re so friend shaped

A painted wood plaque cut out in the shape of a many-armed bat creature. Plaque is suspended by beaded string with tiny skulls, crowns, stars, red droplets, and black moths. A black stone hexagonal pendant hangs from the base. The background is a white wall.

It’s that time again for me to share random wips of ocs (mostly k) and then go lay in a corner

Line drawing of k (a monster oc) making a k pop heart sign with their hand

A line drawing of k (a monster oc) casually drinking boba and wearing a shirt that says “I heart my tiny wife”. Beside them is ret, who is half their height and upset. Shes got a messy side braid and is a human oc. She’s surrounded by speech bubbles that say “omfg” “k!!” “Look!” “At!” “Me!” “Fuck” “k!!!” “Pay attention!” “I’m mad at you!!”

A line drawing of a cat playfully curled up on his side and eyeing the viewer while surrounded by various flowers

A line drawing of a two panel comic featuring k (a monster oc) and ret (a human oc with a messy side braid) in the first panel ret is speaking into a microphone while k looms beside her. Ret: “hey k? The public wants to know: how are u such a baddie?” In the second panel k bends to speak into the microphone ret extends toward them, their dialogue bubble is distorted. K: “I do a lot of murder”

Your labor as an artist matters and you should be compensated fairly. Yes, I’m aware that publishers aren’t endless money machines, but there is great pay disparity between creators and if we want a more sustainable an equitable comics business, that has to change.

I drew the main characters of my story on a tiny piece of paper. K got Mike wazowski’d cos they’re too tall

Goal for this year is to draw on a piece of paper larger than 8x8 for once (I keep defaulting to 3x5 because??? Idk???) I have larger paper I’m just afraid of it for some reason Maybe because it will force me to confront my nemesis

If you’re at #eccc please don’t forget to come to the Basement! A lot of people seem to think there’s only Funko pops and long box comics and blind boxes, but they moved a bunch of indie artists down here too! Don’t miss out!!

Sitting here thinking about how fairytales follow patterns and feature a lot of repetition and I wonder if it is because it makes things easier to remember if the plot is basically the same action 3 times but with copper, silver, and then gold before something different happens and then cue moral

My other big obsession right now is like… the little modular blindbox bjd and mjd dolls. We have touched on this before With my depression flaring up the closer I get to dad’s memorial, I retreat more into my hyperfixations to self soothe Thank u for patience, friends. I am having a very bad time

110

Rook @rookmoth.bsky.social · 30/10/2025

Spoiler I did not make art but I did swatch more ink which was oddly satisfying. It was neat to lay them out and compare them afterward

I swatched ink for myself last night and it used up all my energy but maybe now I can make art later

Art share time: I did a marker experiment and to trick myself into being okay with messing up I did a self portrait 1. Water-based ink pens (pencil erases so easily underneath these??) 2-3. Alcohol-based markers layered on top 4. Water-based markers and colored pencils added

Lavender and gray marker shading added to previous portrait drawing

Further rendered version of the portrait with pinks and oranges for skin and dark blue added in the hair

Finished version of the portrait with colors adjusted for marker coloring and some colored pencil details. Simple red-purple background added

Me, texting my friend at 3am like damn I forgot to consider how access to education might affect literacy and how this might skew the balance of power in a post apocalyptic society— Wait what about barbers and traveling scribes and doctors and clergy—

I used to think that I constructed stories by vibes only, kinda like exploring floor by floor an abandoned house at night with only a flashlight And then I realized that I was exclusively choosing only certain kinds of residences constructed in the 1800s with at least two ghosts and a private yard

One of my earliest and most favorite pinboards— the first time I tried something weird just cos it seemed fun Knifecat pin @marladraw on insta (she has so many variants now) Chat bubble pin @baggingaround on insta

Mixed media collage. Bottom left appears to be a smartphone chat message with one person typing and a pin that looks like a sent message saying “hold on I see a cat”. Upper right depicts a blood spattered (unharmed) black cat holding a knife in its mouth menacingly.

Low light picture of the same pinboard from the previous picture. Phone screen on the lower left glows in the dark.

I think it’s super important to do art for yourself. But also don’t deny those feelings you get when you share it and don’t get a response. It’s okay for it to disappoint you that no one else dug it but you. Keep making what you like.

Really interesting article, this part stuck out particularly well to me:

“For some reason, they are able to process any inversion of empirical reality, but are acutely sensitive to being laughed at. Calling them weird absolutely works, and telling them their sole artistic output looks like shit also works. Laughing at people who treat AI art as in any way legitimate works. Talking about AI’s environmental impact or its implications for the workforce will not work - they like that, it makes them feel dangerous. Instead of talking about taking money from artists, talk about how it makes them look cheap. If hurting and offending people is part of the point, then we can take that fun away from them by refusing to express hurt or offence, even if we feel it.”
