I found a Marvel Legends @romspaceknight.bsky.social figure at a closeout store last week. I ordered two—one to open and one to stay in the package—as soon as it was released, but I still haven't opened one. This one has already had the package cut, but was complete, so....

Marvel Legends Rom meets Parker Brothers Rom.

So, question for ROM fans: Would you consider ROM a temporary or honorary Herald of Galactus? He performed the actual duty of a Herald, but wasn’t empowered with the Power Cosmic. Is that actually a requirement, though or just a “rule” established by fans and past Heralds?

I decided to get a second @romspaceknight.bsky.social figure to have freed from his plastic box. Here he is taking it easy on this sofa chair.

Happy 65th birthday to Brian Garvey! He was a prominent inker of my Marvel tales in the middle of their run along with his inking partner Ian Akin. #BrianGarvey

A ROM cover commission by Brian Garvey from akinandgarvey.com. Rom stands, his face in shadow, but red eye slot glowing, Neutralizer in hand as he stands inside a ruined building. Behind him lurk the shadowy forms of Dire Wraith witches, their red eyes more faintly glowing. At the bottom is the text "Scorched... Earth!"

It has come to my attention that, after being sold for $108 to raise money for the non-profit Inkwell Awards just some days ago, this piece is now listed by a new seller—presumably the previous buyer—for $499. This seems like something a Dire Wraith would do.

And then there's the version with some creative additions by Terry Austin from MARVEL AGE #23.

Rom falling through a black void with the addition of a boat oar, a Titanic life preserver, a teddy bear, a framed photo of a toaster labeled, "MOM," an oil can, and other things.

Guess it's time to share my Hembeck commission again. #Hembeck #RomSpaceknight

A cover redo of ROM #25 by Fred Hembeck (after Al Milgrom) fearing Rom vs. Rom. Except they have mouths indicating the one on the left is surprised and the one on the right is mad (and probably evil).

I had it and still have it. Side note, this is the greatest Marvel cover of all time. Lots of close ones, sure, but this is unquestionably the greatest on so many levels.

I cannot speak to the direct market. I just remember being barely-ten, seeing this on one of the spinner racks at Garfield's, and feeling this thrill of excitement run through me.

Miller did three other of my covers: #3, 17, and 18. As for modern takes, venture to eBay and search for "Frank Miller original sketch Rom" (do not include the quotation marks). You might even buy one should you have a spare $4000.

"Alone Against the Wraith Horde!", cover to ROM #3, by Frank Miller and Terry Austin.

I was not *collecting* comics in 1979. I started in 1981 with Star Wars and Rom, so I had to buy Rom #1 as a back issue. I paid $5, which seemed like a lot back then. That issue is now worn, but signed by EIC Jim Shooter and cover inker Joe Rubinstein. Happy comic birthday, Rom!

A copy of Rom #1 signed Shooter and Rubinstein.
