Wow! Jen's Hulk form in this series is actually pretty creepy I have to wonder if this was something of an inspiration for the Ewing/Bennett Immortal Hulk Hulk #6 - May 2017

I like Mark McKenna's inks over Jackson Guice's pencils Dr Strange Sorcerer Supreme #23 - November 1990

Not only is this issue the first appearance of Umar, but this is the first time that not only did Doc get the full cover AND shared the billing with Nick Fury. Fury had previously gotten solo billing even when Doc got the full cover November 1966

I'm really interested in seeing how this affects other Marvel spellcasters, like Doctor Strange, Clea, Doctor Voodoo, and the kids from the Strange/Doom Academies

Mentioning Carl Potts. Carl is not as known as an artist as you would think he would be because he was also a writer and editor. But Carl knows his stuff.

Little Bruce's monster, how the Hulk's are constructs dedicated to protecting Little Bruce, and how the Hulk's just want someone to tell them they're good boys are all powerful elements I read this for the 1st time 30+ years ago, and tears are streaming down my face right now

I have to wonder if Byrne had already gotten the green light for this Namor series when he was working on West Coast Avengers and if he resurrected Jim Hammond just so he could do this Invaders reunion team up January 1991

On @sanctumblog.bsky.social's recommendation I picked #DoctorStrange: Sorcerer Supreme back up after a couple of less than great issues, and this one was honestly pretty good September 1990

Hulk by Mariko Tamaki and Nico Leon is absolutely not what I was expecting I thought it would be Jen rage Hulking out every issue. Instead it's a nail biting exploration of PTSD. Issue 4 so far and Jen hasn't changed once

The first appearance of Kaluu (flashback and present day of the time), the character who would go on to be Doc's mentor in the dark arts in Peter Gillis's very Elric-esque run in Strange Tales vol 2 Strange Tales vol 1 #148 - September 1966

This page works surprisingly well with Englehart's later implied reveal that Richard Nixon was the leader of the Secret Empire. In 1966 Nixon was campaigning nationwide for his party and extensively traveled internationally, so he really could have been anywhere as SE #1

Hellcat! I don't know that I love the idea of her being with Simon, but Moondragon has been with Phylla for years, and Brunhilde-Valkyrie is dead I think, so... I guess so Wonder Man #1 - April 2026

I remember how annoying We Didn't Start the Fire was when it played constantly on MTV back in the day, but realizing as an adult that the meaning of the song was "the chaotic state of the world that our (Boomer) generation caused is totally not our fault" is a whole new level of ugh

Even though I've loved pretty much everything Gerry has written I was planning on skipping Wonder Man But there's Hellcat! #Defenders

I completely forgot this #Defenders miniseries existed. I think I picked up the first issue back in the day, but bailed on the rest because I've never been a huge fan of Larsen's art. It isn't available digitally but I may try to track it down

This is pretty wild Marvel put out updated Handbooks in the 00s and early 2010s that were specific to a character, team, or theme. They put out a #Defenders Handbook in 2011, and it's entry for Nighthawk is the Squadron Supreme version

A Cup of Eldritch @eldritchtales.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Byrne had a very distinctive visual shorthand for what he equated with "lesbian", beginning with Maggie Sawyer's look in mid 80s Superman To my knowledge Headhunter, introduced in Byrne's Namor, was never canonically confirmed to be queer, but she does have a lot of Comics Code era subtext

To be fair, I only jumped on David's run (both back in the day and on this current re-read) in the build up to the Professor Hulk era, so it's very possible I could have missed earlier body horror transformations
