rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 10/05/2026Hey, thanks for saying so (and for your lovely Steam review). I'm really happy you're enjoying it. Yeah, I never managed to figure out what I did wrong re. making it popular, but I'm always happy when it brings someone some joy, and I try to update it every now and then. 100
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 25/04/2026Did a Ludum Dare for the first time in a while. Made this puzzle game. 100
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 01/03/2024Great work. Always loved fun, detailed designs like this. Waiting for the day when it comes back into fashion. 110
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 28/02/2024Made a game for Alakajam over the weekend. It's a great little 48h jam. Nice community; polished and well-thought-out website. It's been going for 7 years but is still pretty small. If you like game jams, I'd highly recommend it. Feels a bit like early LD. alakajam.com/19th-alakaja... #gamedevalakajam.comA Day in the Sun | Alakajam!Puzzle platformer. 010
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 24/02/2024Anyone else doing Alakajam this weekend? It's a 48h game jam, like a smaller Ludum Dare. 000
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 13/02/2024How cool would it be if that was how the docs were officially presented? A game you walk around and learn through dialogue. "Talk to me to learn about the scene system!" 220
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 12/02/2024Ambient occlusion can be a nice quick win. Here's my game before and after AO: (This isn't SSAO or anything fancy, it's just done with decals) 110
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 12/02/20244. Buying ads I've been experimenting with this lately and will post the results soon. 000
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 10/02/2024These are incredible! Lovely palette too. I particularly like the twisty bramble walls. 110
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 10/02/2024Love the desert in particular. Your style has that combo of distance and mystery that I like. 010
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 10/02/2024Couple of pics from the recent Blackshift “lore update” for #ScreenshotSaturday. Until now, Blackshift has been pretty abstract, but now interested players can hunt for lore tablets to learn more about the game world. #indiegames #puzzlegames #gamedev 010
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 10/02/20243. Woovit / Keymailer I experimented with these services for a month each and neither had any discernible effect on sales. No big channels did any videos; a few people took the free key and stuffed 5 seconds of gameplay into a big "indie dump" video. YMMV but it was a total bust for me. 100
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 10/02/20242. Getting randomly played by a YouTuber I was lucky enough to have my game played by Korean YouTuber 우주하마, and the video got 1M views. It's hard to judge effect on sales, because the video came out soon after launch. But it did give a good short-term boost. www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3gj...youtube.comIQ
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 10/02/20241. Steam sales If you haven't participated in a Steam sale, try it! There are themed sales that your game has to fit in with, but also unthemed seasonal sales like the Winter Sale where anything goes. YMMV, but I've found this to be a good way to get a revenue boost for a couple of weeks. 100
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 10/02/2024A thread on what's worked for me, #GameDev marketing-wise. (My most popular Steam game is sitting at 25 reviews, so take this for what it's worth) 110
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 10/02/2024I did a 25% discount on Hapland Trilogy for the 2023 autumn sale and revenue did this (rightmost spike): 000
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 10/02/2024Yes! This really works. Any Steam #GameDev people who aren't already: take this man's advice! I've found that joining in the regular Steam sales is almost always a win. Even a small discount — say, 25%, works well. 120
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 09/02/2024With Bsky now being open, quote an image to promote yourself! #GameDev 000
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 07/02/2024Nice! I really like it when graphics are minimal enough to spark your imagination, but still have some character to them. I'm sure it works especially well with DND. 010
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 07/02/2024Do people include links to their stuff in their posts here? Or does it do what Twitter does and blackhole any post with a link so users won't leave the site, and you have to go "find it on Steam" or whatever? 000
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 07/02/2024The other thing I released semi-recently is Hapland Trilogy, which you might enjoy if you liked those infuriating Flash puzzles from the 2000s that didn't give you any help or tell you what to do. It's on Steam. 000
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 07/02/2024Recently released a big update for my puzzle game Blackshift. It adds some lore and some super hidden post-game stuff. 010
rogual @rogual.bsky.social · 07/02/2024New social network, let's give it a try. Mostly here for gamedev. 010
