This "Anime That Shaped Me" trend was tough because while these aren't necessarily my 9 favorite anime, each of these had an indisputable hand in getting me from watching Pokémon as a seven year old to covering anime/manga as part of my career.

Unfortunately, we will never get a movie like 6 again. This released during the Water 7 Saga when popularity was at fever pitch in Japan but overseas popularity wasn't there yet. They weren't afraid to get experimental. With OP's worldwide popularity level now, they wouldn't risk doing it again.

It's important to note that Nintendo at the time of the DS' launch positioned DS as a "third pillar" to live alongside GameCube and GBA even though DS was backwards compatible and even doubled down on this in 2005 by releasing the Game Boy Micro nearly a full year after the DS.
