One time I was at a recording studio, the owner's name was Fernando. He was sitting at the boards and his tech asked if he could hear the drums. I perked up and immediately sang the line "can you hear the drums, Fernando?" Everyone looked at me like I was fucking insane. In a recording studio!!

Also, if you're doing an adaptation of material now considered deeply problematic, you can either remain loyal to its depiction or you should rewrite the damn thing. Emphasizing Cathy's childhood abuse does nothing to garner sympathy for her as an adult because she doesn't struggle with it at all.

I'm aware of the history of East of Eden and that might be the most interesting thing about it. Without Lee's story in the new show (which wasn't even that big of a deal in the book and was entirely left out of the original movie adaptation) there's really nothing there to chew on.

I love SHf as a standalone, it tells such a cohesive and relatable story over a gorgeous, stunning horror landscape. But I wouldn't say it's a faithful SH. Hell it was arguably closer in tone to games like Siren and Fatal Frame. They really let the leash loose on that one.

Townfall has incredible atmosphere, absolutely smashes my anxiety constantly and I'mnot even playing it, spooky as fuck. And the story is so frustrating, the dialogue doesn't help at all, there's no urgency to it. It's possibly the best modern adaptation of Silent Hill.
