I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.

rainbow capitalism is important not as a statement of any corporation’s values (for that, look where they donate money and talk to LGBTQ employees!), but because they have access to consumer data we don’t have and they’re conservative by nature. a pendulum swing right now is useful data

So let me know if you want to come to a virtual talk next wk on “Reimagining Leadership.“ Time tbd. The focus is on cultivating critical, creative, and caring capacities in medicine, but I think it applies beyond that. I’m pretty sure we can do this without any leaders.

In that scenario, the only ethical thing to do is to use the $1.6M from RFK Jr to give the birth dose to all newborns in Guinea-Bissau. I’ve seen one estimate that this amount of funding would cover all newborns for 10 years. From next year, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, will Fund the birth dose.

A trial is only ethical if there’s equipoise: we do not know which “arm” of the trial is superior The proposed trial by Danes, funded by RFK Jr, lacks equipoise: we know that withholding the birth dose is harmful Now, the Danes might say, “Guinea-Bissau is too poor to buy the birth dose”

We know—from robust evidence—that the hep B vax birth dose protects against infection, liver disease, liver cancer, & early death We also know that in a country with a very high prevalence of hep B, you’re consigning a high proportion of the babies in the “no birth dose” group to these outcomes

I’ve seen a few folks comment that “Guinea-Bissau is a low income country and cannot afford the hep B vaccine birth dose, so why is this study unethical?” It’s a good question. Let me have a go at answering it. In a nutshell, researchers cannot ethically exploit poverty & scarcity to do a trial

The idea is FEWER bioethics case studies, folks, not more. (This is the trial Guinea-Bissau canceled after uproar earlier this year. They KNOW it’s unethical. So do the Danes — and when did Denmark suddenly become open racist researchers? That is some legacy to yell with your full chest, Denmark.)

The Iceland eclipse was clouded & rainy, & it was awe-inducing. Imagine living 600 years ago, having 18hrs of sunlight a day & then at the TOTALLY wrong time, the lights go OUT—for more than they have in months—but only for minutes. How could you not think of gods & magic?
Looking out towards Breiðafjörður from Innri Látravīk and Lárvaðall, across Grundarfjörður, a few minutes before totality. This was when it started to get cold and the very loud seabirds (gulls and arctic tern) became quiet.About peak totality and a false sunset some 4hrs and 15 minutes earlier than it “should” be. Looking at Innri Látravīk and Lárvaðall, across Grundarfjörður towards Breiðafjörður.After false sunset and sunrise, when the wildlife was still extremely confused. I was smacked by a dozen very confused moths right in the face. 😂 Looking at Innri Látravīk and Lárvaðall, across Grundarfjörður towards Breiðafjörður.
