PovCat Ray & Tripple Bass Trio - Ingo Janssen (1999) (rendered on a 266MHz Toshiba Tecra) #caturday #raytracing #art #retro

a rendering from povray, on a toshiba tecra laptop, of 4 floating cat heads, very round, with pompadour hair looking like fonzie or elvis. the eyes have tiny dot pupils further giving it a goofy feel, all over a checker background, and the text 'povcat ray' 'triple bass trio' in a diner font.

First thing I thought was japanese! Yes, mix it with horrible pronunciation and you get stuff like sory (with the spanish soft r) which was really common at the time lol

Yess lol. Something about the 90s and sounding cool by speaking English 😂. It's only gotten worse over time 🫩

This anti piracy ad from Argentina was insane. I used to skip it because I was scared of it lol

So true. Newer ones are tolerable but the other one i have from the 80s is pure chaos. I took a picture when i opened it. The fact that the main pcb is on a hinge is such a pain to work on it

Insides of an old vcr. On top a pcb on a hinge that folds over the mechanism

Oh yeah. I'll try the calibration later with the scope, fix a broken plastic for extra security but I can call this a success. Didn't report it but I've been sad because I broke the other vcr but it's fine. This works better. And now I understand a bit more how this machines work

I may have a vcr working thanks to the magic of stacked icepop sticks! (The plastic that activated the cassette inserted switch was of the kind that desintegrate over time)

A plastic with some stacked icepop sticks cut to fit, glued

The front of a vcr. Behind the piece that was on the previous picture, making contact with a switch

🫤 booring. I kinda got the same news but from the teacher's perspective. I want to teach how to do things, not how to prompt them wtf. Also actually doing the thing while learning is much more fun that asking a machine to do it 🥱

Poor ventilation leads to a sad oscilloscope :(

A screen capture from an Iwatsu oscilloscope manual

Do not use the oscilloscope in the harsh environment
The environmental characteristics are:
Operating temperature: 0 to 40C
Operating relative humidity: less than 90%RH at 40C

Avoid using the oscilloscope in the poor ventilation circumstances

And then three pictures of a sad oscilloscope under heat, cold and moisture

Why are people so fucking noisy? Can't they just... be silent. Like are they not bothered by loud music or loud talking?

These past few days I've been working on a cd player and a vhs player. Good news is that both are working again :D. Also I happened to buy lion king accidentally (box mismatch) so that's kinda cool. I used to have this movie as a kid

I got my 100% legitimate collection of ps1 games back from storage. They even came in vinyl!

Two ps1 games side by side. The left one is. Megaman x6, the right one shows a disc that says melody and looks like a vinyl record. Both obviously counterfeit
