My ❤️ is happy. Visiting my colleague Song An’s math methods class and thinking of @triangleman.bsky.social’s puzzles and Nick Johnson’s current research. This was the pick-me-up I so desperately needed.

A NYT comment: “Humans ate organic, whole foods for millennia. They got plenty of exercise, lived without plastics. Until the mid-1800s, life expectancy at birth was 39. Food may be good medicine, but it’s not a panacea. Medical advances—like vaccines—have doubled the human lifespan, not superfoods”

The double standard here is stunning. Universities are losing grants, student aid, and endowments for being "too woke." But churches (which also receive federal funds, eg, for school vouchers, food banks, and marriage promotion programs) are now allowed to openly endorse political candidates.

As an athlete, I now see food as fuel. But I didn’t always. Growing up, Diet Coke, Snackwell cookies, and published diets listing half a grapefruit with a boiled egg and black coffee for breakfast destroyed many of us. I still have body image issues. But fueling activity matters more.

We were pulled aside going through border patrol. No complaint. We told them CBD gummies were previously in a backpack. They tossed our vehicle & let a large dog trample all over it. The dog damaged the interior & somehow we get yelled at by agents, blamed because of the potential trace of substance

Before I protect my sanity for a bit. Uncertainty drives up mental distress and suicidal ideation for #PSLF borrowers - as illustrated by those waiting on a forgiveness decision. See the graphs below. With N=2,400 suicidal ideation was already 3x higher than national reported avg.
Remaining Repayments and Distress by Suicidal Ideation (line thickness where thicker lines are more people indicating YES)BIG spike for WOFD borrowers due to uncertainty.

Please look up the influenza epidemic of 1918-19 to understand that the CDC not selecting strains for next year’s vaccines sets the stage for a public health calamity that will, without doubt and at bare minimum, catastrophically and directly impact people you know. This is a five alarm fire.
