Video in response to a viewer's question about whether I intended to continue Alexander the Great's story in further novels. The short answer is "I hope to," but there are some caveats, mostly to do with publishing itself. #ClassicsBlueSky #AncientBlueSky #AlexandertheGreat

just watched the first episode of Netflix’s new Alexander the Great docudrama (dramatization interspersed with talking heads) and I am so glad in 2024 we have reached the point of softcore Alexander/Hephaistion makeouts in a documentary while the expert voiceover is like “of course they were lovers”

I was interviewed in this. Long (almost 2 hours!), but better edited than what I do. (Well, the fact it's edited at all beats my own videos.) Despite cover/intro, it's fairly wide-ranging on Alexander the Great, his father Philip & ancient Macedonia. #AncientBlueSky #ClassicsBlueSky #BlueskyAncient

I wrote this 7 years ago, but its worth a share here for Valentine's. What initially interested me about #Hephaistion was the fact his friendship with/love for #AlexandertheGreat (and Alexander's for him) seems to have been the Real Deal. #ancientbluesky #classicsbluesky #blueskyancient #Hephaestion

Alexander the Great was the most poweful man in the world and could do literally anything he put his mind to, but couldn’t save the person he loved the most from death (Hephaistion). Feel this tragedy on my bones

Despite the teaser image, this isn't about Nolan's film. Better people reviewed that. Instead, I discuss a range of things involving the translation of the ancient world into ours in fictional form--and my own experience doing so as both historian & writer. #Homer #AncientBluesky #ClassicsBluesky

I love the contrast of Dion being an obvious pretty man in a lot of ways (nobility, got hit by that ff beauty beam too) but also being a relentless commander and soldier. He’s a very firm character who is also outwardly kind. He seems very grounded by reality even with a pointed upbringing…

🕺🕺paper faces on parade

grayscale sketchy drawing of dion and Terence from ff16 dancing. they are in loosely rendered masquerade style outfits complete with capes, cording referencing the holy order symbol on cuffs & sleeves, and horned dragon masks (half face masks). dion's hair is up in a lil ponytail. he's clasping terence's hand in his own and smiling. there is also the suggestion of a sly hand on terence's back-- dion's thumb can be seen there, and the rest of his hand hides beneath terence's cape
