You have got Andy Burnham's speech spot on @mrjamesob.bsky.social it was emotionally and politically acute. My dad also passed away in July aged 91. He had dementia but knew who I was. He didn't go to grammar school. He needed social care. He would have loved that speech and it left me in tears, too

I don't think he ever understood how to "do" politics, so he outsourced this to people like McSweeney. He was vaguely "progressive" but had no political antenna and certainly no ideology. As others suggest, he thought leadership was simply managerialism, which it's not. It was a tragic combination
