Kākā recovery in Wellington, incredible story I’ve just finished for @NZGeographic goes much deeper than conservation of the birds, a reconnecting of knowledge and what’s to come. Exciting. nzgeo.com/stories/forty-… @WgtnCC @docgovtnz @Forest_and_Bird @andrewlittle_nz

Rise of the noble false widow
Lots of spiders are very good at one or two things. Stalking, maybe. Setting traps. Biting. But Steatoda nobilis, the invasive spider now spreading in New Zealand, has an arsenal of tactics—including ...

My 8yo just found out he paid 7c tax to IRD last month from his savings. “Yay, now I can swear Dad!” “How come son?” “Well mum said I could only swear once I started paying tax!” Actual. LOL, can’t fault the logic

Sometimes people try to tell the truth accidentally. Why was Andrew Bayly given days to tell his family? Have a listen at this odd unprepared answer: "I've never had an affai.......um, anything like this happen before".

The word “affair” got halfway out of Bayly’s mouth in a near possible Freudian slip on tonight’s TV. Makes one wonder what he had to tell his family over the weekend?

Looked like MP Andrew Bayly nearly made a Freudian slip with the word “affair” getting part way out of his mouth during the TV standup?

5 marlin have now been caught off Waikanae/Kapiti in the last week. And today a Mahi-mahi fish was caught near Kapiti island. Changes to the Wellington area marine environment in my lifetime are extreme (and concerning)

Fast chaser boats opened up the rorquals to hunting & hence a whole new whale mass in the southern ocean, pressure cookers to drive oil from bone, tax changes to stop wastage (which created factory ship dev to avoid tax). Many factors saved the sperm whale (at expense of others).

Whaling changed massively because of product demand (like baleen vs plastic, lighting vs lubricants) & the big developmental steps in whaling technology. This construct was based on a simplistic wrong snapshot deployed to wrong times & was not taken seriously if you understood the long history

Of course it was never true. It didn’t light the Industrial Age, it lubricated it. Old machinists still regard it as the best machining oil. Btw, clock lubricants were more specifically taken from pilot whale jaw fat, unique bc of its close density to sea water for sound propgtn to ears for sonar
