Let’s be very clear: there is value in automating tedious and repetitive and dangerous tasks; there is value in delegating certain work to our machines that can do the work tirelessly and much faster.

Since a dev shared his game concept last month, Steam has been flooded with vibe-coded slop clones. This is what "democratising creativity" actually looks like. Even with AI, your ideas are worthless as long as they can be plagiarised at scale. Gen AI was designed for plagiarism, NOT creativity.

I really hate the framing of these stories as "an AI agent broke out and hacked something." No, an inadequate sandbox meant that a powerful and unpredictable computer program was set loose on the open internet by the company that designed it. The agency isn't with the "AI agent", it's with the firm

The fallacy that University leaders pushing AI are falling into is thinking that the point of undergraduate research is to find things out. It isn't. What students find out is typically already generally known. The point of undergraduate research is to learn how to find things out.

Saturn, Dione wide-angle [updated] - From Gordan Ugarković (ugordan.bsky.social) - flic.kr/p/owLWh
Natural color view of Dione transiting Saturn's disc. Nearly edge-on rings are visible below.
Image taken on 22nd September 2005 with the wide-angle camera. Distance was 803 000 km, phase 43 degrees. This image was taken simultaneously with the narrow-angle one and shows the wider scene with Saturn's giant disc dwarfing Dione. Rings cast dark shadows upon Saturn's northern hemisphere which is notably bluish.

* Fixed the processing a bit to make the colors look more natural.

as long as games — in any genre and on any platform — continue to be seen as toys and tech products instead of (gasp) works of art or culture, we will be haunted by these no-nothings. And even then. Some of it is up to us to stop referring to our life’s work as “content”, maybe? Just sayin’.
