Can anyone who speaks Icelandic let me know whether there is a logic behind "opna" taking the accusative but "loka" taking the dative? Regarding a door, "ég opna hurðina" but "ég loka hurðinni". This is the kind of thing I'll fail to remember if there isn't a reason and it's just how things are 😂

Yep. That’s the barrier for most people in our system, unfortunately. And, unless you can get statutory damages in a copyright case, it often isn’t worth pursuing.

Some foreign authors may not need a U.S. registration to sue, if their work isn’t a United States work, but they wouldn’t be part of the class in the Anthropic case. They’d have to bring another case (maybe another class action?).

This tracks. I only met him once and he was kind. A know people who knew him for many years and while they seems to love him overall they did think he had moments that weren’t great. I heard more positives than negatives about him, though.

It was good. A couple of Icelandic bands I wanted to see that will probably not be in the States any time soon, and the headliner was a band I’ve wanted to see. The crowd was very friendly and good fun, so a great experience all around.

I think so. The first story was published in Analog and iirc it was clear Pern was a planet colonized by Earth. McCaffrey didn’t like the books being called fantasy but the early ones, at least, have the feel of fantasy.

A week in #Iceland I saw a few snow flurries, the roads were great, and the lowest temperature my car recorded was -2 C. Back in Southern California, had to chip ice off the 4WD and it was -4.5 C this morning.
