Remember when we teachers and professors used to tell our students not to use Wikipedia? Its standards are now higher than the many teachers and professors (and university admins) who promote the use of AI.

You're right - Streeter's accounting for all the data makes it very easy to teach, which is why i always start with it. Im grateful though to be able to share with my students short clips like this for them to appreciate both the positives & negatives, & to seek out dissenting views. Thank you Mark!

Mike Bird's association of biblical scholarship he doesnt like with Naziism (he's also done this to JD Crossan & B Mack) risks trivialising the concrete words & actions of really-existing racists & anti-semites whose historical & continuing acts of political violence should remain a primary concern

It’s #MosaicMonday and we’re taking a dip in the sea to freshen up with this marine life mosaic from Pompeii. It’s possible to identify the different species including the central tussle between an Octopus vulgaris (common octopus) and a Palinurus vulgaris (European spiny lobster). #AncientRome
This gorgeously detailed piece shows a section of sea completely dominated by marine life of different types including fish, eels, and cephalopods. It was found in a house in Regio VIII.2.16 at Pompeii and is now held by the MAN Napoli (inv. 120177).

My latest at Philosophy for the People takes a close look at all the passages about Karl Marx in Jordan Peterson's new book "We Who Wrestle with God":

Did Jordan Peterson Forget What Marx Wrote in the Communist Manifesto?
Judging by the Marx passages in his new book, Peterson not only hasn't read a word of Marx since he read the Manifesto to prepare for his debate with Žižek in 2019 but he's forgotten much of that.

I tend to see book proposals as different to journal articles in that it is (generally speaking) okay to approach multiple publishers, as long as you're transparent etc with them about that.

The inverse is also interesting regarding ideological gatekeeping in NT studies. I once received a negative peer review which asserted I hadn't included German scholarship despite my work containing extensive & nuanced discussion of Marx, Engels, Kautsky, Bloch, et al.
