Fantastic book launch last night in LA. Really fun doing this with Mike and Meagan, we got great questions, and best of all we sold all the copies in the box they sent us so Mike and I don't have to find room in our luggage when we fly to NY in a couple of hours for Stop #2.

Bhaskar and Mike and I are in @jacobinmag.bsky.social today with an article previewing one of the core arguments of The Blueprint:

Economic Democracy Is at the Heart of Socialism
Democracy should not end when the workday begins. Workers deserve a say over how their workplaces are run — and a claim on the wealth they create.

This week's Friday Pick at my Substack is @ryanzickgraf.bsky.social's article on the Socialism conference at @damagemag.bsky.social, "The Victims of Socialism." This is just the right way to write about this stuff in 2026--neither wagon-circling defensiveness nor feeding into the Right's narrative.

This week's Philosophy for the People essay is a reprint of my tribute to my grad school professor Quentin Smith, originally written shortly after he died in 2020. If I were writing it today, there are things I'd do differently, but it seemed best to keep this one as a time capsule.

Spectacular Roman octopus mosaic from the floor of the women’s changing room at the Central Baths in ancient Herculaneum. 📷 by me #MosaicMonday #Archaeology
My photo shows a monochrome Roman floor mosaic depicting an octopus. The octopus is composed of small black tesserae (tiles) and has eight writhing arms with suckers and narrow curling tips. It is set against a white tesserae background. This octopus detail comes from a monochrome marine mosaic featuring Triton with a cherub and various sea creatures which include the octopus, dolphins and a cuttlefish. Happy to see Zohran doing the lord's work keeping AI out of elementary + middle schools. But also a little depressing that doing even doing that much is controversial. With the narrowest exceptions, it doesn't belong in high school, college, or postgraduate education either.
