The girls, brought on to investigate a string of murders in the town of Stockard, are about to perform an autopsy. #WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity From Punga and the Silver Siren book 3, "A Murder of Beasts"
From what Reggie could see, Alaric’s body had been very well cared for. He looked just as pretty in death as he’d been in life, with his sandy-blond hair oiled and slicked back, even though his eyes and lips were stitched shut. His cheeks had sunken and his skin had developed a waxy, blue-gray appearance, but the cold seemed to have successfully held back full decomposition. More than a week after his death, the cadaver didn’t seem to have swelled very much, if at all. Then again, the only part of him currently visible was his head.
“Be careful with him,” Daniel said, his voice echoing in the small room.
“I promise he won’t be hurt,” Reggie snickered. She then nodded at Emiri, who grabbed the corner of the sheet covering the corpse and yanked it away.
“Well isn’t that something,” said Brian. Three feet to his left, on the other side of the door, his deputy let out a whimper.
Emiri looked like she’d just sucked a lemon, while Reggie clucked her tongue. “At least they didn’t touch his face, huh?”
“Hrm.”

Holy hell, this version of Carrie is gonna wreck me. The story hits so much harder when the characters look and act like teenagers. Summer Howell is so perfect in this role. It's going to break my heart.

After seeing @suleikhasnyder.bsky.social discuss In the Name of the King last night, I decided to give it a try. THC seltzer's firmly in place. This is so awesomely bad. I especially love that the huge battle sequence at the one-hour mark can't begin until... 5 ninjas descend from the trees?

Every month, a rep from the CT DNC writes to me asking me to run for office, any office. "You could make a difference!" they say. Pretty sure these go out to a portion of registered Dems, but still, the thought of me in office is funny. I'd be a horrendous politician. I wouldn't last a full term.

I've been feeling down lately, for obvious reasons. But then I spoke with an artist who saw and translated my vision. Who is kind and communicative. And who's just plain awesome. So now I'm just a tad bit happier.

Just gotta remind myself, as a Patriots fan, that every loss - especially embarrassing ones - will make Robert Kraft mad/sad. And the world is a better place when men like him are in a dissatisfied state.

Figured I'd watch that Wick-adjacent Ballerina movie. It's only been out there for like a year or more. And right off the bat... Did a whole kill squad just scuba to their destination while carrying crossbows with bolts already nocked? Yes, indeed, they did.

Okay. Obsession. Really well written and made. The cast was great. The problem is, I didn't actually LIKE it. The experience wasn't enjoyable. I felt so, so sorry for the poor girl, and loathed the male lead, the whole time. It was devastating. I know that's the point. But still. 1-time watch.

Someone at the day job asked me if I take inspiration from outside influences. I said of course. They wanted an example, so I told them that my entire new series partially came about after "Dead Men Don't Rape" by Delilah Bon was released. The convo ended quickly after that.

All four covers of our romantasy series (Consort of Fire, Queen of Dreams, Daughter of Tides and Prince of Storms) with the quote "life-or-death stakes and off-the-charts eroticism" because sometimes review outlets say nice things about us.

Finally watching Keeper, now that it's on Hulu. I like Perkins as a director. I like the atmosphere and feeling of dread his movies create. But he's not very adept at building a mystery. The husband is so obviously shady in this flick right from the start. Tatiana's gravity carries the whole thing.

New WIP snippet: There was innocence here, a blissful sort of purity that she had a difficult time connecting with. Almost as if the land itself had been shielded from hardship and the wickedness of man. She found that peacefulness unsettling, if only because it felt so unnatural.

Have you ever taken your sweet time with a book, because 1) it's so immersive that you wanna bathe in it the aura, and 2) you feel like you might miss something important if you start to absentmindedly skim? That's how I feel about what I'm reading right now. It's fucking awesome.

Turns out getting older really is the practice of learning to compartmentalize trauma and loss so you can still somewhat function in society. Experiencing that while the world around you falls apart doesn't exactly help you get through it.

Let's talk endings. My two favorites are probably obvious - bittersweet and HEA. Generally, I greatly dislike depressing endings. Hopeless ones. Filled with despair. Even so, the last section of "The Bridge" by Skipp and Spector is one of my all-time favorite endings. Horribly poetic.
Parable

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful blue world, dancing and spinning at the heart of all creation.

Her name was Gaia, which meant "Goddess of the Earth."

Of all the planets in the dance, Gaia was the most abundant, the most vibrant with life. So many colors adorned her surface; so many hopes and dreams played across her face; so many forms sprang up from her imagination that it seemed as though surely her light would never fade. And the dance would never end.

Then one morning, she woke up crawling with cancer.

It was a whole new ball game.

The envelope, please.

That show really likes making people suffer. And yet I kept on watching both new eps anyway, making me more depressed. It's a me problem.

This is the thread for my newest release, a dark fantasy adventure called "A Lesson in Violence," in which two old friends reconnect on a quest for revenge. A brutal story of friendship, and the ways your past can always come back to haunt you. Amazon link: www.amazon.com/Lesson-Viole...
Book cover for "A Lesson in Violence" by Robert J Duperre, depicting two main characters posed side-by-side: Emiri, aka Punga, a seven-foot-six inch brawler with a tattooed face, wearing her plate armor and holding her giant sword. And Reggie, aka the Silver Siren, a beautiful, five-foot tall, platinum-haired sprite, wearing her twin daggers on her thighs.
