Now I don't think I've ever seen a Chapman Stick in person. I can remember having a Alphonso Johnson album and he was playing one on the cover ✌️

Man, that looks like one hell of an experience! Must have been mindblowing, like a life changing event? I've only seen footage on YouTube and the Dead movie etc. Being from Scotland most people see my Dead t shirt and think I'm into death metal or something. it's odd how massive acts on both

Odd thing is, most of the famous musicians I've stumbled into have always been on the smaller side. I guess you need the large hands for double bass 🤔

I don't know who owns the patents with Ken just dying recently, I doubt the lawyers have even sorted out his estate. You're right though, it would be cool to see them brought back. He was just concentrating on his archtops. ✌️

One of my worst losses was getting rid of an old Lab Series amp. I can't remember the model number. It was a joint experiment by Gibson/Moog. Solid state but as heavy as any tube amp. B B King and Holdsworth were fans. Great clean sounds. The one that got away! lol ✌️

Nothing wrong with that. It's a healthy hobby or job if you're lucky. The main thing is to have as much fun as possible whilst learning important lessons. I can't believe how successive governments have underfunded the arts. It helps make life worth living for the vast majority of people. ✌️🕊️☮️

Two Women with Attendant in the Snow. Ukiyo-e woodblock print. About 1800, Japan. Artist Utagawa Toyokuni I
Walking side-by-side through a gentle winter snowfall, two women in elegant winter attire share a large oil-paper umbrella (wagasa), followed closely by a young attendant bearing a second parasol. Both figures are enveloped in black cloth hoods (zukin), framing their calm, delicate features against the pale winter landscape. The woman on the left carefully gathers the hem of her forest-green kimono to reveal an inner skirt patterned with delicate shibori tie-dye and floral sprigs, while her companion wears a serene lavender robe decorated with winter plum blossoms (ume) fading into warm peach tones. In the background, a simple wooden bridge railing spans across a quiet river valley beneath a snow-dusted sky. The print radiates an intimate sensory atmosphere: the hushed silence of falling snow, the rhythmic crunch of high wooden clogs (ashida) treading across frozen ground, the soft rustle of heavy silk layers, and the chill of winter air softened under the shelter of oiled paper. Designed around 1800 by Utagawa Toyokuni I (1769–1825), a titan of the Utagawa school, this ukiyo-e woodblock print captures the sophisticated charm of Edo-period bijinga (pictures of beautiful women). Toyokuni was celebrated for his dramatic kabuki actor prints (yakusha-e) and stylish portrayals of urban life, capturing the trendsetting sartorial fashion of Edo's merchant and artisan classes. The black zukin hood featured here was a popular winter accessory that combined practical protection against biting cold winds with an alluring, mysterious fashion statement, while high-stilted ashida clogs kept expensive hand-dyed garments safe from winter slush.

These fragments from a Roman villa in Spain are not from a mosaic but from a fresco. If you look closely you’ll see a grid of lines, many following the contour of the figures, much as tesserae do on mosaics. This trompe-l’oeil technique simulates mosaics. 1/ 🏺 1st-2nd c. Museo de Málaga 📸 me
Fragment of a fresco depicting part of a human face, mostly the eyes. Thin lines form a grid pattern, simulating the edges of tesserae.Fresco fragment showing a naked torso of a woman, her legs and pubic area covered in a red himation (cloak). Her right hand carries a basket laden with fruit, which look like giant globes of grapes. Grapevine leaves appear in the background. A Dionysian scene. The faux tesserae grid lines follow the curves of the body.Fresco fragment depicting some sort of half-human creature with wild hair and bare torso, gesturing upwards with his right hand and holding a branched stick with his left. The faux tesserae grid lines follow the curves of his garment and body.Fresco fragment with the torso of perhaps a god with golden skin, a red himation flowing outwards and partially covering his or her legs. Perhaps Dionysos?

Prehistoric fridge! This approximately 4,000-year-old storage vessel once served as a kind of fridge. It was kept in a pit and sealed with a wooden lid, likely to store perishable food. Unfortunately, there weren't any residues left to tell us exactly what was stored inside. 🧵1/2 📷 me
A large, coarse pottery vessel with a rounded body, a wide opening, and a decorative band of regularly spaced perforations around its upper section. The beige surface is cracked and uneven, and the vessel is displayed against a dark background.

Here’s my photo with a full view of the outside of this Athenian red-figure kylix painted by the artist Douris (he signed the interior of the cup). It shows four schoolroom scenes of boys at their lessons. Here’s a link to the Altes Museum object record: search.smb.museum/en/object/ob...

This ancient Greek figure from the 2,500 year-old Douris Cup looks uncannily like someone working on a laptop! 😲 💻 He’s actually writing with a stylus on a hinged wax writing tablet! The technology has changed, the posture has not! 😂 Altes Museum, Berlin 📷 by me
My photo shows detail from an ancient Greek red-figure kylix (drinking cup) of a young man shown in profile seated on a stool facing right. He wears a knee length cloak (himation) over his left shoulder, which is shown in folds around his waist and upper legs. His right shoulder, chest, and arms are bare. His dark hair is short, and he wears a band around his head. He is looking down at an open rectangular wax writing tablet which he is supporting in his left hand above his lap. In his right hand he holds a metal stylus pen poised over the writing tablet. The wooden writing tablet is hinged like a book and, from this angle, resembles a modern laptop. The figure is part of a scene depicting school lessons in ancient Athens, painted by Douris around 480 BC. On display at the Altes Museum in Berlin.
