And the plot is literally Tom Cruise vs. AI. Practical action vs. CGI. Old vs. new. It’s the most on-the-nose metaphor ever, but it works for me because it kinda explains the whole franchise. I think Fallout was better too but damn if I won’t rewatched DR every time I’m on a plane. It rips.

Rebecca’s death is the one thing that still feels undercooked to me. Maybe because the characters didn’t process it AT ALL. The rest of the writing is intentionally overly-dramatic—like the war room scene at the beginning where they all finish each other’s sentences.

A lot of TV is made like that. Breaking Bad writers would deliberately write themselves into corners or foreshadow stuff that they hadn’t written yet (the pink stuffed animal in the pool, the gun in the trunk).

McQuarrie said they didn’t have a finished script for Fallout either. Draft when they started filming was 33 pages. He said he likes It that way because making the movie feels like one of the team’s impossible missions.
