My first flight was in a VC10 to Italy. I think I was around 8 years old, I think. Crew allowed me to sit on flight deck for the landing - can’t imagine that happening now! Didn’t know B Cal flew them. I have a friend here in York who flew VC10s. Check out “A little VC10derness” VC10.net.

A Little VC10derness
A tribute to the Vickers VC10 Airliner. This site relates the full story from its early beginnings with BOAC to its current use as a tanker with the RAF.

I’ve been thinking about this. It was the Nimrod that triggered memories (as well as the Hunter) . If I recollect it was based on Comet design and my dad worked on BOAC Comet fleet (might have been BA back then. I’ve seen the VC10 somewhere else and can’t remember where. Possibly Duxford?

You are causing me to doubt my memory. A repeat visit is overdue but I’ll also try to get to Doncaster

Never knew about that. I need to visit. At Elvington there are 2 aircraft that remind me of my Dad. Hawket Hunter (he used to build them) and the VC10 (he was a licensed engines and airframe engineer on the type. Almost certainly would have worked on that particular aircraft in its civvie days

My local yew garden I love yew!
The picture shows carefully trimmed and shaped yew trees at Heslington Hall, near York. Grass paths lead through the trees. The sky has some blue, but mainly high grey and white cloud

‘Morning sjcp and ORCs. Present - just. I’ve woken up with a headache after a poor night. I think I’m feeling tense about the funeral later in the week. I think I’ll take it easy today and won’t be spending it in the studio as planned. HAGDA

I agree. Working dogs do like to work. My younger daughter has a working cocker spaniel and she calmed considerably when she spent time with her OH’s dad’s dogs who are kept to work. Although daughter’s dog is really a companion animal, she sometimes works with the pack, and loves it.

I’m a little bit jealous …I really love collies. We had one in my childhood and teens. Wonderful dog

This feels like a huge over reaction from them. Very sad. Might it have been possible to find a volunteer to go with him to provide the extra support?

‘Morning sjcp and ORChestra. Spent pretty much all of yesterday afternoon and evening attending to household stuff. More of of the same planned today but also hoping to do some art as I’m going into the studio tomorrow, instead of Thursday . Time for winter duvet, methinks. HAGDA

‘Morning Cathy and SORCs. Slow start to the day but have done some laundry and hung it out. Excellent day yesterday. A nice walk along the river from Middleham to the Cover Bridge Inn (very fine pie and pint) before retracing our footsteps. Popped into see younger daughter and family on way home
A distant shot of the grey stone Middleham Castle, which is mid-frame. In the full ground is a grass field and a grazing white horse.. The bottom right of a picture is part of a stonewall. The upper half of the picture shows grey, cloudy skies.
The River Cover below Middleham in North Yorkshire, England. Water levels are very low revealing the flat stones that would usually be underwater. Trees frame the shot: to the left they are on the far bank, to the right on the near bank. Slightly to left of centre, on the far bank, there is a flat, grassy clearing

‘Morning Arm-Wap and ORCs. I’m looking forward today: Meeting up with my Wordle/Hang5 Pals for a walk and pub lunch in Wensleydale, though there is a good chance of 🌧️. We’ve known each other for about 30 years and used to do this more regularly but one them moved to N Ireland… 🤞 it stays dry. HAGDA

Thanks Didi. It’s a shame that everything coincided with starting my printing course. Embarking on a 3 year programme in fine art printing brings its own inner churn in one’s thinking and ideas. I’ve also ended my professional registration this week and coming to terms with that loss of identity

Pinch and a punch, catsinfrance and fellow ORCs. Print studio today. Sharing a house with a very experienced artist/art teacher has major benefits when you are engaged on an art course. Yesterday brought a really supportive conversation and advice borne many years practice. HAGDA

Brilliant letter from Stuart Thompson to Jeremy Clarkson about his comments that benefit claimants should write weekly thank you letters to tax payers detailing how they spend their benefits each week.

When the British canals needed water, they had to build their own reservoirs. Why not the same for data centres?
