As I said months ago, anti-AI movements will have very minimal effects. There will not be any slowdown. The labs involved are stuck in a prisoner's dilemma caused both by their own capital funding and international competition. China will not slow down, and SF yuddism will never be taken seriously.

Gonna briefly do an AI take: it used to be possible to have interesting discussions about AI here, and it's got progressively less so. You can't just think AI is bad, or overhyped, you've also got to subscribe to a very particular worst-case scenario about *how* it's bad and how bad it is.

The whole Mythos saga is a complete repeat of o1, including the lab saying it's too expensive and too powerful to release, then releasing it very limitedly, and then an open source competitor replicating it, including these same people predicting that means AI is over.

The current state of the world wrt AI in 2026 as I see it: Some people in the US are upset about AI for practical/NIMBY reasons. They're upset about datacenters. It hasn't had much effect until now. Most people don't believe Terminator doom scenarios of any kind.
