The men of the city watch patrol the streets of the floating city of Axos, bringing law and order to the people who call that vast metropolis home, whether they want it or not. Just don't ask about habeas corpus. (Aka the baddies of my current DnD campaign) #nerdlings

I've been surprised by how much I've enjoyed running curse of strahd, it's like DMing with a safety net or something. I might look for some more modules I can run after this. In the land of dnd I have curse of salt marsh and I wonder how well it could translate to pathfinder.

I think a reason I'm attracted to the OSR is because it's the fantasy equivalent of firefly to my brain.

Finding out I don't have the time nor inclination for longer video games sucks. I used to love big open world games, I spent so long in Skyrim and similar games but now I just have things I would rather do. I see a game is openworld and it just turns me off, I want curated experiences.

Star Trek should be about hope for the future and about humanity. The phasers and aliens and space wars and stuff are all set-up for that. Kindness. Communication. Love. Unity. Peace. Common ground. Science, medicine and technology working towards those goals. Live long and prosper.

If your games art direction makes it hard for me to read, if the writing of the RULES is very verbose and meandering, and if your layout is overly chaotic I probably won't play the game. I might read it but not play it. To play I want to be supported by the book, not have to fight it.

020

Zoe @ripley-gm.bsky.social · 25/03/2026

Now I'm working full time with notable transit time I believe more than ever that a good ttrpg ought to be easy to dugest and fun. I do not have time to decipher an obscure tome, I just want to play pretend with my friends with the structure and aid of core rules.

Zoe @ripley-gm.bsky.social · 24/03/2026

Go watch Project Hail Mary. Ryan Gosling is amazing, its visually stunning, more things are good I won't spoil, also go read the book it's good.

010

Zoe @ripley-gm.bsky.social · 23/03/2026

To bring it even simpler: Does this game facilitate a fun yet structured play experience without hindering said experience? I think GAMES are about fun, and TTRPGs are about having fun with friends. If your book is not about that that's cool but I tend to think of them as something other than game

000

Zoe @ripley-gm.bsky.social · 23/03/2026

I think a good way to capture my view on if a game is good is this: Is it fun? Can you play it with a new table and have a good time? Does it leave room for flexibility in events (you cannot prepare for every possible event) Does it let the facilitator have fun and actually play?

Did I add a lake troll to Curse of Strahd just because I've been thinking about Beowulf? Yes. It was fun. You should think about Beowulf more and add more lake/swamp monsters to your fantasy games.

Interesting post, I must say I strongly disagree with it but still Interesting. Art can be anything to me, a bridge can be art but a bridge must also function as a bridge, a chair must be a chair. If you make your game to be played then playability matters, if you make it to be read that's different
