Page 10, panel 1. Viktor looks down from the railing edge of this sinking pirate ship, face cracking with horror. No, he mutters. panels 2 & 3: the dark unmanned vessel jumps with the stormy waves, sails fluttering in the violent wind, seawater crashing on the hull. Narration. Here’s a question for you: how does one prepare for the unforeseeable? Maybe if your home is prone to earthquakes, you seek shelter. If you live among a drought, you stock water. But what if the ground disappears under your feet? If there is no home to speak of? Do you hope for the best? Flip a coin in the air? Submit to fortune? Pray? Viktor doesn’t like these answers. Panel 4, a closeup of viktor’s twitching hand. His fingers clench nervously. Panel 5, viktor turns around in a rush, looking at jayce. He hurriedly asks: are there no boats? Floaters? To which jayce shakes his head, wearing a dejected expression on his face. Nothing, he replies. Panel 5, the world skews sideways on the head of a pin. Viktor marches forward, staring at jayce. You have to knock me out, he says. Jayce steps back in surprise. What? Panel 7, metallic ink strokes on a dark background. Viktor is in one side, jayce in the other. Arguing, viktor says; if i fall asleep we’ll be teleported. Anywhere is better than here. Jayce isn’t hearing it, he loses his cool and raises his voice. OR i’ll cave your head in and drown while you’re comatose! Are you hearing yourself, viktor? Panel 8, a close up shot of viktor’s face. His eyebrows are drawn together, expression hard set. WHAT ELSE do you suppose we should do? It’s just a punch. Don’t be dramatic. Panel 9, jayce breaks and screams I’M NOT DOING THAT AGAIN. End page.

Page 11, panel 1. Jayce staggers back, tears in his eyes like a pane of broken glass. He’s panicked to the point of grinding his teeth together. His arms flail in front of him, grabbing his own jacket for solace. Panel 2, jayce leans his back against the mast of the ship, trembling. He buries his face into his own palms and refuses to face viktor, who stands still at a considerable distance, cape billowing in the air. What? Viktor asks, not processing what is happening. Panel 3. The dark waters underneath the ship start to bubble and rise against gravity. Panel 4. A flashback to viktor’s death scene in season 2, body limp in the ground of the commune after jayce shot through his chest. The panel is cut like a piece of shrapnel. Viktor’s face is scribbled out by a blotch of ink. The image distorts, breaking into shades of red and blue. The wound in viktor’s chest continues to crackle with electricity. Panel 5, suddenly the waves break. Something gigantic emerges from the deep, tendrils of hair and body and arms wide splashing in the air. Shrill laughter pierces through viktor’s ears. The boat tips to the side. He falls on the deck. Panel 6, viktor braces himself against the wood flooring of the ship, water spraying over him. His long hair whips in the wind, making only one of his wide eyes visible. Panel 7, the looming figure stands tall in the water. A woman’s body, ten times the size of the pitiful pirate ship. Her arms are open wide as though she might ambush it. She wears a cruel smirk and frilly, royal dress, extending to her tentacles beneath the waves. The sclera of her eyes is black, and the middle glows like two thin moons. With a resounding voice, she announces; I finally caught you. Filthy thief! This octopus-mermaid is the canonical sunken shadows nami.

Page 4. This page begins with a big unfurling scroll. As the long paper twists and rolls across the floor, scenes are depicted in its creases, with a fair amount of dramatic shadow. Viktor’s narration is overlaid on top, explaining the events as follows. That first night, he slept hungry. In a rotting pantry there is nothing to eat. Instead, jayce flipped through dusty old magic scrolls, the work of a courtly astronomer long buried with the blessed isles and their coastal academy. He satiated himself with their stories, records, rumors… and a moldy bed, flattened under the weight of them both. But Viktor couldn’t muster similar excitement. He had to keep ghosts out. Panel 1 depicts jayce and viktor peering into a dark room where food was once kept, the remains covered in larvae and decomposing spume. Panel 2, from afar, depicts a shot of jayce and viktor sitting on a big canopy bed. Jayce lays back to read his scrolls while viktor stares intently at a truly humongous fireplace, the fire inside it burning brightly. Panel 3, viktor uses his magic instincts to retaliate against an encroaching green wraith, splitting its head from its body. Panel 4, a close up shot of his hand, smoking with the remains of that green specter. Panel 4, drawn as if its part of a mural, depicts the arcane herald in all of his inhuman glory, charging up a beam of pure energy through his arm and into the wider world, sending tendrils splitting across the night sky. Narration states: the Arcane is stronger in places wrecked by ruin. His reach went further. Panel 5, a mirror of the one that came before, shows the beam in a thinning, crumbling state, as a very human viktor pulls back his hand. Narration: Just not far enough to find anything useful. Viktor tsks to himself, muttering: no signs of life for miles and miles, of course. Panel 6, narration. So in the next evening, viktor turns to shameless robbery. In this panel, a viktor clothed in an entirely different attire intercepts an alien wait…

Page 5. DAY 2. IN A DRIVE THRU SOMEWHERE. Generous establishing shot of a building high up in the sky, surrounded by fat clouds and awaiting spaceships. Cyberpunk screens filled with advertisements scatter below. This central building is the equivalent of an alien mcdonalds’, only instead of a clown for a mascot, they have an apocalyptic supermassive horned monster skull physically built into the top of the skyscraper, teeth and fangs protruding as if its big maw is biting on the middle layers of the structure. A tacky arrow floating outside directs customers to the side, with a tented opening, where they may purchase take out. Jayce’s speech balloon comes out of the monster's big eyes, which are actually windows to the inside of the restaurant. He says: so… I see your powers are working fine. Panel 2. The empty plate of food from before, not a single crumb left. Viktor’s speech bubble is stacked on it. Ah, yes. Forgive me if this makes you uncomfortable. To the side is a long vertical panel of viktor, wearing stolen clothes from head to toe. He probably got all of these pieces the same way he got jayce’s food: by sticking his hands into someone and convincing them to hand it over. He now wears his blanket as a sort of scarf or shawl, wrapped around his shoulders and falling behind his back. His stolen scifi outfit is made up of a long sleeved coat with a white dress shirt underneath, peeking as far as his knuckles. Panel 3, jayce is munching on his food like a squirrel with his cheeks overstuffed. He seems surprised by viktor’s remark as he picks crumbs from his beard. Hmm? Jayce answers, no, no, I'm grateful. Viktor’s narration cuts in. Gratitude, that’s what scares you the most. Viktor speaks again. Jayce, I don’t want you to feel indebted to me. With his eyes downcast, the narration finishes the sentence: coercion isn’t a great bedrock for a relationship. But he doesn’t say that. Panel 4, Jayce tries to dodge the overwhelming amount of viktor speech balloons com…

Page 6, panel 1. Viktor is utterly startled by Jayce’s action, looking down at their joined hands like a bomb is about to go off. Panel 2, their palms are joined gently, the point of contact shimmering, like bright stalks of light among the cosmic darkness of the astral plane. Viktor’s vision shifts into herald vision. Panel 3. Jayce smiles affectionately at his partner, his body glowing baby pink and blue, made of stardust. He has 4 fingerprints on his forehead, made by the herald in their confrontation days ago. The astral plane sparkles invitingly around his presence. He is also wearing a new black woolen undershirt and a fashionably uneven gray jacket, acquired by viktor. Jayce asks: can you, um. See anything interesting inside? Panel 4. Viktor pulls back his hands with a jolt and shows his palms in the air. Shocked. He seems flabbergasted, tripping over his words. Inside of- oh! You mean in your… head? Just some white dots. Nothing else I'm afraid. In the foreground of the same panel, a chibi jayce awkwardly laughs, his moment ruined. Huh, he says. That’s a little bit anticlimactic. The black narration comes right after his statement, in an accusing tone: MADMAN. Panel 5. Viktor pulls back with a twisted smirk, processing what he’s heard. Jayce talis. Were you HOPING I could mess around in your head? He asks, Extra emphasis on hoping. Panel 6, jayce rubs his neck embarrassingly. He’s flushing red. I’M NOT- of course it sounds evil when you say it like that. Panel 7. Viktor continues to tease him. You can just tell me things, you know. With your mouth. Extremely flustered now, jayce hides his face behind his wrists, he swears, I didn’t mean it like… Viktor leans further on the table, propping up his chin on his palm. He’s now in his element, smugly remarking: Extracting secrets from your mind isn’t exactly ideal. End of page.

Page 1, panel 1. A burst of arcane darkness. it reads, You awake… then panel 2 completes that sentence: In the Jungle. It is a shot of viktor from behind, long haired and wrapped in a blanket. wilderness stretches out before him, thick with woods and leaves. the greenness of the trees is the only part of the page with color. Panel 3, he examines his body, baffled. Alive. Himself. Panel 4: Not alone. Viktor hears a laugh to his right and turns to see Jayce laying down on the grass not too far away from him. Panel 5: a close up of Jayce’s smiling, shiny, breathless face. He grins, showing the gap between his teeth and says: Quite the landing, huh? Panel 6: Not alone. The rest is of little concern. Aerial shot of viktor throwing himself over jayce, both of them rolling in the grass and hugging, their bodies tangled. Viktor's blanket trails in the soil. Jayce wears his fur coat from the last battle. Page 2, panel 1: viktor's bare feet walk the grass, moist dew dripping from his soles as he moves. Narration reads: Rain graced this soil just a few hours ago. What a sweet air, you think. Panel 2, Jayce and viktor walk under a curtain of swirly vegetation, peppered with blooming fruit. Jayce has lent his fur coat to viktor, who wears it in an oversized fashion. The humid habitat feeds a vast wealth of flora. Panel 3, jayce and viktor walk on a tree trunk bridge so massive they seem like two tiny ants. Dragonflies soar in and out of bounds, colored in holographic shades of blue and purple. A wealth of insects, says the narration. Panel 4, continuing: And a rather… slippery terrain. One could fall at a moment's notice. The pair makes their way down a natural knot of crooked wooden branches, where someone has hammered in planks to be used as a ladder. Viktor arrives on the ground first and assists jayce, who seems to have a bit more caution. end page.

Page 3, panel 1: You tire before sunset. Barely a day's walk. A shot from behind of a tired jayce leaning on a tree trunk, the sun high above his head. Viktor watches him with concern on his face Panel 2, closing up on Viktor's raised hand, his fingers slowly reaching for Jayce’s shirt. He says, hey… and pauses. Panel 3, a sudden flashback to their time in the past as lab partners; the room filled with grayer tones, fuzzy at the edges. Viktor is overworked. Jayce touches Viktor’s shoulder, bringing him a bowl of warm soup. He smiles gently, and says, much in the same tone; It's been a while, don't you think? We can always finish this tomorrow. Panel 4, back to the present, where viktor has just echoed his words. he leans his head on Jayce’s shoulder, feeling embarrassed, and continues speaking: “Besides… I would like to lay down and rest a little… with you.” A trail of pink bubbles decorates the panel. a cartoony heart bounces on Jayce’s head. He's flustered. Panel 5: Accepting Viktor’s suggestion, Jayce hugs him tightly, nested in the corner of the tree. The camera pans away from them, the dense jungle framing their bodies in a storybook fashion. They haven't walked enough to get out. short grass, large bushes, stone formations and many, many tiny mushrooms sprout from the ground, leading the eye. The narration says: It’s strange, how familiar this newness feels. end page.

It was so easy the last time, the narration reads, on a close shot of viktor & jayce's faces leaning against each other, their foreheads smashed together to the point the form of each body is indiscernible. it's based on the final astral plane scene at the end of arcane. they gaze deeply and lovingly into one another's eyes. Panel 2; Viktor's pink hand making contact with Jayce’s forearm, sending sparks flying. the narration continues: One brush of your fingertips, and you were as one. Panel 3; One perfect heartbeat, one single soul. Panel 4: not alone. the pink lines grow thinner, the light of the arcane taking over. the lower half of jayce & Viktor’s faces are depicted, open lips overlapping in a not quite kiss, their bodies almost fused. It's effulgent, and then its gone. Panel 5 is dark black, opening down the page like an abyss. arcane strings of pure darkness rip at their seams. narration reads; and now, returned to your old self… you miss him like a hole in your heart. Viktor stands alone in the chasm, naked, pale, bones protruding. The color is sapped out of him. Panel 6: a thinner, long distance cutaway of episode 7 jayce right after he climbed out of the ravine, looking up to stare inside mage viktor's shadowy cloak. He seems like an imposing figure. Narration says; Jayce has never kept a secret from you before. now he does. the mere thought of that stranger touching him is enough to burn you up inside. Next panel- a shot of only Jayce’s legs, focusing on his complex brace. narration asks; is he to blame for the broken leg? the scars? for the six months you spent thinking jayce was dead? in the last panel, there is an isolated flashback of viktor in his commune, surrounded by a field of swaying flowers and his own solitude, nothing else.

page 7. this page is a 9 panel grid, each square being the same size and shape except for the very last. Panel 1, pure black with white letters. narration: Are you to blame for his misfortune? Are his wounds the covert price of your good health? Panel 2. Viktor at a gala, watching jayce smile wide in the spotlight while he blurs in the background. Text: I ENVY YOU.
